The Family of Frank and Louisa Sommer
|
Frank and Louisa SommerFrank and Louisa Sommer emigrated from Germany and arrived at the port of New York on November 8, 1881 travelling on the S.S. Ethiopia. They were accompanied by their children Otto and Louisa. |
They appear the in the 1900 census of Brighton township, Kenosha county, WI. Frank's occupation is listed as farmer. |
This record indicates that they had been married 41 years, placing their marriage date
at about 1859; Louisa would have been about eleven at that time.
Frank Sommer died on Mar 17, 1907; Louisa subsequently married Edwin Wilcox. In the 1910 census Louisa and Edwin Wilcox are living in Salem township, Kenosha county, Wisconsin. |
In the 1920 census they are still living in Salem. |
The 1930 census shows them again in Salem. |
In this record Louisa is shown as being first married at age 29; this would place her marriage
to Frank Sommer at about 1876 which is after the birth of Otto.
In the censuses of 1900 and 1910 Louisa is shown as having one child;
it is possible that she was the second wife of Frank Sommer and that Otto Sommer was not her natural son.
Note: there were Mecklenbergs in the Salem censuses of 1900, 1920 and 1930; it is possible that they were related to Louisa. Louisa died in 1931. |
Otto SommerOtto and his wife appear in the 1900 census of Reitbrock township, Marathon county, Wisconsin Otto's occupation is shown as farmer. |
In 1910 they are still in Reitbrock township, now with three children. |
Still there in 1920, now with six children. |
In 1930, four of their children are living with them in Reitbrock township; their son Joseph and his wife live in the next household. |
