Jacob Pinson lived in Middle Fork at Blue Creek, Kanawha County Wv.
He was killed before 1861 during the start of the Civil War.
He was reported as a confederate sympathizer and tried to purchase ammunition at Cannelton.
Union Troops pursued him to his farm. A fight ensued
Jacob had left his ramrod in his gun barrel and fired a shot and killed the lead horseman
He surrendered and as he stepped outside,
one of the yankee soldiers jumped him with a bayonet and killed him.
One of his children Phillip was wounded in this fight also and died later in November 1861
a daughter, Tabitha, was shot in the head, receiving a brain injury which left her a invalid
the rest of her life. during the turmoil the two youngest children, Daniel
and his sister Laura, hid under a bed behind a tool box where they quietly stayed
while the soldiers rammed their bayonets under the bed,
striking the tool box which saved their lives.
The soldiers ransacked the house ,took their food and left the stricken family destitute.
After the shooting the two younger children could not be found and Mary Pinson
fled to the woods in search of them where she wandered for two days before she was found.
it is said that some neighbors came to the rescue of the family,
giving aid to the injured and buried Jacob Pinson on the farm. B
Jacob pinson was 48 years old at the time of his death..
Phillip was 18.
Another son Harvey, lost his life in the battle of Gettysburg. he was a union soldier.
