Will of Philip Guston Alston, 1852
Brother of George W. Alston, d.1849; both were sons of Philip G. Alston (1762-1819) & Mary Williams Harris-Alston
In the name of God Amen. I PHILIP G. ALSTON of the County Warren and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my
last Will and Testament in manner & form following:
Item 1st. I give and bequeath to my nephews PHILIP G. ALSTON a Negro girl named SALLY MACKBRIDGE & her future increase
Item 2nd. I give to my nephew WILLIAM H. ALSTON a Negro girl named ABBY and her future increase.
Item 3. I give to my nephew GEORGE W. ALSTON a Negro girl named RANY and her future increase.
Item 4. I give to my sister ELIZABETH ALSTON a Negro woman named CLARISSA and her future increase together with her three children PETER LIDDY
and HENRY.
Item 5. I give to my sister CHARITY D. WORTHAM a Negro man named STARLING.
Item 6th. I give to EARNEST FOOTE the Bonds I hold against JOSEPH J. WILLIAMS one watch guard & one breast pin.
Item 7th. The balance of my Negroes not above disposed of old ISHAM and LEAH excepted. I wish to be equally divided between my three
nephews PHILIP G. ALSTON WILLIAM H. ALSTON and GEORGE W. ALSTON share and share alike together with all my money, Bonds, watch, gun, household and
kitchen furniture, plantation utensils, and stock of every kind and what crop I may have on hand at the time of my death, with the growing crops share
and share alike. I also give my nephews PHILIP G. ALSTON, WILLIAM H. ALSTON & GEORGE W. ALSTON the right title and interest to which I have in the land
and Negroes given me in Alabama under the Will of my deceased Mother MARY ALSTON which property she heired from her granddaughter MARY TRIP.
It is my will that Old ISHAM and LEAH have the liberty of choosing their Master or Mistress.
It is my will that all the Negroes herein given my nephews PHILIP G. ALSTON, WILLIAM H. ALSTON & GEORGE W. ALSTON be kept together and worked on my
Lands & the proceeds be equally divided between them share & share alike and when my Nephew PHILIP G. ALSTON becomes of age or marries it is my will
that PHILIP G. ALSTON have all my Lands on the north side of Maple Branch; my nephews WILLIAM H. ALSTON & GEORGE W. ALSTON Negroes be kept together and
worked on my Lands on the south side of Maple Branch until WM. H. ALSTON becomes of age or marries the proceeds to be equally divided between them share
and share alike. Then it is my Will that WILLIAM H. ALSTON have the tract of Land called the Rivers Tract and my nephew GEORGE W. ALSTON have the Tract
of Land called the Berry Tract but in either case of my nephews die without lawful issue then it is my Will my other two nephews have the Land & Negroes
herein given to the one dying and in case all die except one without lawful issue then it is my will the surviving one have all the Lands and Negroes
herein given the other two.
Lastly. I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my friends THOMAS N. F. ALSTON and ARCHIBALD D. ALSTON Executors of this my Last Will and Testament
in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 28th Jan’y 1850.

This paper writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of PHILIP G. ALSTON was offered in Open Court for probate and duly proved by the oaths
of N. F. ALSTON and A. ALSTON the subscribing witnesses thereto and on motion was ordered to be recorded.
