(China, Sally & David Harwell were the children of Sally Harwell, a free woman of color in the Warren Co. records. China Harwell married
Ambrose Hawkins in 1823 Halifax County, where they raised their family. Ambrose & China's children were Susan, Frances,
Sally Eliza, Harriet,
Hiram, Joseph J., William Hilliard, Tempy, and Zedock Hawkins. Sally Harwell Jr. never married. David Harwell married Nancy Mills in 1820,
and he moved to Liberia in 1832, where he died of disease in 1835. I
don't know what happened to his wife) See Document: Pgs.
