Post Office: Marysville, County of Union, State of Ohio Attorney: J. M. Kennedy, P.O. Marysville, Ohio Fee: $25 Contract - Agent to Pay Application filed: February 4, 1889 Alleged service: Service alleged in Captain Lawrence's Co. Granville Regt. N.C. Mil War 1812. Enrolled as Drummer & that JEREMIAH ANDERSON was a comrade. Record evidence of service: Auditor reports in Sd Land claim #31131-160-55. THOMAS EVANS served in Capt. Cha's Sims Company N.C. Mil from July 28 to Aug 18, 1813, and that JEREMIAH ANDERSON Wt.#3568-160-55 rendered service same time in same Company. Length of Service: 22 days Proof of Identity: Identifying witnesses and identity of comrade states he was acquainted with witnesses named in 13S case and that in 1855 they resided in Granville NC. Proof of Loyalty: Testimony of ELIZABETH PETTIFORD, WESLEY EVANS, & MARTHA EVANS Submitted: In admission Feby 23, 1889, to a pension of Eight dollars per month from March 9, 1878 the date of the Act, at twelve dollars from March 19, 1886. State of Ohio County of Union Ss On this 30 day of January A.D. 1889 personally appeared before me the undersigned authority SALLIE EVANS aged 108 years a resident of Marysville, County of Union, State of Ohio who being duly sworn according to Law does declare that she is the widow of THOMAS EVANS who served the full period of sixty days in the Military service of the United States of the United States in the War of 1812 and who was the identical THOMAS EVAN who was enrolled as a Drummer in CAPT. ABRAM LORANCES' Company 9th Company 5th Regiment Granville Regiment detached from the Granville Regiment 2d Brigade Brigadier General EPHRAIM DAVIDSON, RICHARDSON Lieut Colonel commanding said 5th Regiment and who was enrolled on ___ day of ____ in the War of 1812 and was honorably discharged from said service on the ____ day of ____ 1814 that he was a Drummer of said detachment of said Granville 5th Regiment of said NC Troop in said War of 1812 & was wounded and a Pensioner of the United States as I believe & remember up to his death which took place on the ___ day of January A.D. 1867. She further says that she was married to said soldier under the name of SALLIE BASS there being no legal barrier therto that she has not remarried that her & the soldier were free Colored People since the death of said soldier, that at no time during the late Rebellion against the authority of the United States did she & her husband adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government giving them aid or comfort or exercise the functions of any whatever under any authority or pretended authority, in hostility to the United States. That she is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act that she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the Act approved February 14, 1871 and she hereby appoints J. M. KENNEDY of Marysville, Ohio her atty to represent her claim for pension. That her post office is Marysville, County of Union, State of Ohio and that her place of abode is Marysville, Ohio. WM. McCARTHY, SALLIE EVANS ("X" her mark) FLORA EVANS Also personally appeared WILLIAM McCARTHY of Marysville, Ohio & FLORA EVANS of the same place, persons whom I know to be respectable and entitled to credit who being duly sworn say they were present and saw the claimant make his mark to the foregoing declaration that they have every reason to believe her to be the person she represents herself to be and at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did she or her husband adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government or give aid or comfort. That they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. WM. State of Ohio County of Union In the matter of the Pension Claim No 44832 of Widow of THOMAS EVANS late a Drummer of War of 1812, personally came before me, the undersigned, authority Claimants statements who being well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and being first duly sworn, Says she know LEWIS T. SMITH and WILLIAM ASKEW and to the best of her recollection now thinks they resided in the year 1855 at Granville County North Carolina she further says she knew a man by the name of THOMAS H. USERY and he lived at the time she knew him at Granville County North Carolina. And the Claimant further says she knew BUCK EVANS, JERRY ANDERSON, THOMAS CHAVOUS who were comrads of her husband SALLIE EVANS ("X" her mark) Witnesses: A. H. KOLLEFRATH J. M. State of Ohio County of Union In the matter of the Pension Claim of Wid. of THOMAS EVANS late a Drummer Vols, Company 9, of the 5th Regiment of N. Carolina, in the War of 1812, personally came before me, the undersigned, authority WILEY EVANS & MARTHENA EVANS who being well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and being first duly sworn, say they are 67 & 53 years old respectively, a resident of Marysville Ohio, Post office Marysville, Ohio and who being duly sworn say they have known the Claimant SALLY EVANS & her husband for more than forty years and know that she and the soldier lived together as husband & wife during the life of the soldier who died in January A.D. 1867. Who have known the Claimant ever since and know that she has not remarried since the death of her husband. We also knew her & her husband during the War of the Rebellion and know that they neither of them aided or abetted the enemy during said rebellion they were free colored people and moved from North Carolina during the fall of the year 1860 and lived in Ohio ever since that time. Said Soldier was wounded in and of his legs and was always after lame but do not think he was a pensioner if he was we never knew of it. We have often heard him told of his army service and that he went out as a Drummer in said service above named and that he was wounded in and of his legs as he stated while in said service. State of North Carolina County of Wake In the matter of the Pension Claim of Wid. of THOMAS EVANS late a Soldier of Company 9 of the Granville 5th Regiment of North Carolina Vols War of 1812, personally came before me, the undersigned, authority ELIZABETH PETEFORD who being well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and being first duly sworn, says she is about 85 years old, a resident of Raughleigh, N.C. Post office Raughleigh, North Carolina and make says she is a daughter of the Claimant and remember when my Father went into the service in the War of 1812. I was quite a large girl at that time and I know that the Claimant wife is my Mother was his wife and that they lived together until his death which took place in Ohio about the ___ day of January A.D. 1867. He was a colored man. My Mother is very old and feeble. I know that she is the person she represents herself to be. I have been in communication with my brother WILEY EVANS Family with whom she lives and know she the widow of THOMAS EVANS above named. State of North Carolina County of Granville In the matter of the Pension Claim No. 44833 of Widow of THOMAS EVANS late a Pvt of Company 9th of the Granville Regiment of North Carolina Vols War of 1812, personally came before me, the undersigned, authority MAJOR EVANS who being well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and being first duly sworn, says he is _____ years old, a resident of Talley Ho, NC, Post Office Talley Ho, NC and who says he is a son of the Claimant and said THOMAS EVANS who was a member of Granville Reg. NC Vols of War of 1812 I have often heard my Father speak of his service in the War of 1812 & from that my Father & Mother lived together as husband and wife up to the time of my Father's death which took place in Ohio in ____ day of January A.D. 1867. I also know that the Claimant is the widow of THOMAS EVANS the soldier whose named. See Muster Rolls of the soldiers of the War of 1812 detached from the Militia of North Carolina in 1812 and 1814 - Ninth Company, detached from the Granville Regiment No. 39, page 60, you will find THOMAS EVANS. (The Muster Roll aforesaid was published by Act of General Assembly of N.C. under direction of the Adjutant General of the State on February 25, 1873) Further state that he have no interest in this claim for pension.
