In the Name of God Amen I. WILLIAM WILLIAMS of the
County aforesaid in the State of North Carolina being of sound and perfect
mind and memory (thanks be God) but taking to mind the mortality of mankind
and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make ordain
constitute and appoint this my last will and testament in manner and form
following (to wit)- First I give and bequeath to my wife ELIZABETH WILLIAMS her heirs & assigns the following Negroes (to wit) TOM, NIPTON, BOATSWAIN, & SILVA I also give to my said wife my horse called Sanney & his saddle & bridle and my riding chair. Item I lend unto my wife ELIS'TH WILLIAMS the use of six Negroes during her natural life (to wit) FONTAIN, SARAH & her two children, BETT, JUDA, PHEREBY, ABBY, & WILLIS and after the decease of said wife I give the said Negroes to be divided in the following manner (to wit) I give my Negroe FONTAIN to my son SAMUEL WILLIAMS his heirs & assigns my Negroe woman SARAH & her two children BETT & JUDA, I give to my son WILLIAM WILLIAMS his heirs & assigns my three Negroes PHEREBY, ABBY & WILLIS I give to be equally divided between my two sons SAMUEL WILLIAMS & ELISABETH JOHNSTON & their heirs or assigns Item I give my Negroe GAMBO to any of my Children that be chosen Item I give and bequeath to my son SAMUEL WILLIAMS his heirs or assigns a tract of land in Bertie County beginning at a white oake in MR. WILLIE JONES line near the road running thus along his line across the Town Swamp to his corner near the Bridge thence along his line to his corner near BARTLIEs [sic] then along my line to the Edge of the town Swamp -then along the edge of the Swamp to my pasture fence then along my fence across the Swamp to the other side thence along the fence to the other corner then across the Swamp to the land herein after given to SAM'L WILLIAMS JONSTON thus along the s'd SAMUEL WILLIAMS from to McCULLOCKs line then along McCULLOCKs line to COL. THOMAS PUGH's line then along his line to the beginning & also given and bequeath to my said Son his heirs or assigns one Hundred Acres of Land more or less lying between his line MR. WILLIE JONES and the Town Swamp being part of the land rented last of the Indians. I also give and bequeath to my s'd son SAMUEL WILLIAMS his heirs or assigns one Hundred acres of land more or less in Martin County joining the lines of JOSEPH HOOKS & JOHN JAMES - Item I give and bequeath all my lands rented last of the Indians that lies between the main road & Roger's Swamp to be equally divided between my two sons SAMUEL WILLIAMS, WILLIAM WILLIAMS and my daughter ELISABETH JOHNSON & their heirs & assigns Item I give and bequeath to my grand son SAM'L WILLIAMS JOHNSTON his heirs or assigns the plantation whereon then formerly lived with all the land lying my pasture fence, SAM'L WILLIAMS fence MR. McCULLOCKS line & the line formerly belonging to the Indians. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter ELISABETH JONSON [sic] her heirs or assigns the plantation whereon SOLOMON BARTLEY now lives including my pasture & all the land thereunto belonging except what is herein given to my son SAM'L WILLIAMS & my grandson SAM'L WILLIAMS JOHNSTON. Item I give and bequeath to my son WILLIAM WILLIAMS his heirs or assigns forever my plantation in Bertie County, whereon his "cousin" THOMAS CORN now lives with all the land thereunto belonging lying between MR. WILLIE JONES line, COL. THOMAS PUGH's line & the road I also give and bequeath to my s'd son WILLIAM his heirs or assigns my plantation whereon JOHN TAVIN[?] now lives including my s'd sons quater & all the land therein to belonging known by the name of Jincys Neck[?] I also give and bequeath to my s'd son WILLIAM WILLIAMS his heirs or assigns all my land lying on Roanok River beginning at MR. NOAH HINTONs corner at the mouth of a small gut above Shelby Hill runing thus down the River to COL. THO'S PUGH's corner opposite Connors Landing then out along his line to the back & so to include all my Island land I also give and bequeath to my s'd son WILLIAM WILLIAMS his heirs or assigns the plantation whereon I now live in the County of Martin with all the land thereunto belonging. I also give and bequeath to my s'd son WILLIAM WILLIAMS his heirs or assigns all my lands lying between the lines of ELIAS BRYAN, JOHN BRYAN, JOHN HYMAN, THO'S WEATHERSBEE & EZEKIEL MOORE. I also give and bequeath to my s'd son WILLIAM WILLIAMS his heirs or assigns the following Negroes (to wit) GREAT ISOM, LITTLE ISOM, GUY, ABEY, ARTHUR, JENNEY, FLORA, VYLET, AMEY, PENNY, COOPER, HARTY, EDA, FRASER, NANCY, & CHANY. I also give my s'd son WILLIAM WILLIAMS all the horses, cattle, hogs & sheep that he has now in his possession. Item I give and bequeath all my stock of horses, cattle,hogs, sheep and household furniture that is not here in before mentioned or given in legacies to be equally divided between my wife ELS'TH WILLIAMS & my son WILLIAM his heirs or assigns and after the decease of my s'd wife ELS'TH WILLIAMS I give and bequeath her part of the s'd stock of horses, cattle, hogs, sheep and household furniture to be equally divided between my son SAM'L WILLIAMS and my daughter ELIS'TH JOHNSON and their heirs or assigns then Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint MR. JOHN JOHNSON and my two sons SAMUEL WILLIAMS and WILLIAM WILLIAMS Executors to this my last will and Testament hereby revoking and disannuling all others by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the 22 day of December 1778. WILLIAM WILLIAMS Signed, Sealed, Published & Declared by the s'd WILLIAM WILLIAMS to be his Last will & Testament In presence of EZEKIEL MOORE JOHN TAYLOR SILAS GLASGOW(?)
