Notes:
Possible first "Arledge" in US was William
Aldridge/Arledge of Northumberland County Virginia in the 1700's. He is
the one who started spelling his name this way. There are court records
(I do not have-others have mentioned) that show William Aldridge and
William Arledge owning the same property in Virginia at the same time.
His descendants went to both North Carolina and South Carolina. The
South Carolina family spread through Alabama, Mississippi and Texas, as
did some of the North Carolina branch. The North Carolina branch also
spread through Tennessee and Ohio.
It is interesting that most researchers are using
the name "Mary Nancy" Arlege and in most of the records found she is
listed as "Margaret."
