Martin

Martin Davies

1965 -2001

Martin moved to Nottingham three years ago from his native Cardiff. When he came here, he took over our computers, setting up the network and for the first time ever, everything always worked alright from then onwards.

Two years back, he bought me a copy of Family Tree Maker, thinking it would keep me amused until my next new piece of software. Little did he know he had started off a hobby that was soon to turn into an obssession! I have lost count of the hours I have since spent in pursuit of my ancestors.

A few months later, he bought me my first digital camera. Life was never the same again. After a few weeks of taking photographs of everything that moved - and things that didn't - I started taking photographs of places in Nottingham, so that people could see the houses, churches, streets and villages that figured in the lives of their ancestors.

After I had emailed the first photographs around the world, he suggested I created a web-page to display them. He taught me to use web-authoring software - though I never achieved his level of skills - and the result is this site.

Martin died unexpectedly at the end of November. I have lost my partner, my teacher and my best friend.
