Harriett Bowles

Harriett Bowles was the youngest child of John and Celia (Sally) Bowles. She was born in Kentucky, almost certainly in Barren County, about 1841 according to the 1850 census. She is mentioned in depositions taken in the settlement of her brother, Obadiah Bowles' will. She is also mentioned by a niece, Anna Lucille Bowles, in a listing of family members. No other references to her have been located. Specifically, she does not appear with her father in the 1860 Metcalfe Co KY census. Since she would have been about 19 at the time, I scanned the entire Metcalfe County census book for a Harriett about that age who might have been her. No one was found named Harriett within the age range of 18-20.

Two reasonable possibilities suggest themselves: (1) Harriett died before 1960; or (2) she married someone who lived outside the area included in Metcalfe County when it was created in 1860. If she died before 1860 she may be buried in an unmarked grave in what is called today the Nunnally Cemetery off Wilbur Glass Road, however this is just speculation.

Effort has been made to eliminate errors, but their absence is not guaranteed. This document is copyright 2007 by Charles Hartley.
