Petree Family Graves

John Petree, son of Johnnes Petry and Barbara Butts, was born 2 Feb 1810 in North Carolina and died 15 Sep 1885 in Cherokee County, Georgia. He is buried in the Little River Methodist Church Cemetery, located on Highway 92 east of Woodstock, Georgia.

John was married twice, first to Amanda Martin on 15 Feb 1829 in Lincoln County NC, and second to Mary T. Smith on 11 Nov 1832, also in LIncoln County NC. John and Amanda had two children, Susan Emaline and Lawson H. Petree. Amanda died on 27 May 1832, shortly after Lawson's birth and John then married Mary. They had eleven children: Wilburn T. (also identified as William), Julia Anne, Francis Caroline, Charles Harrison, Mary Jane, Anna Clementine, Russell Reyno, Sarah Florence, Henry King, Georgia Ann Albertine, and Elbert Twiggs.

John's gravestone has been moved from its stand and laid on the grave. It is deteriorating, but is still readable.

Mary Smith Petree was born 7 Dec 1815 and died 10 Sep 1885 in Cherokee County, Georgia. She is buried next to her husband in the Little River Methodist Church Cemetery, located on Highway 92 east of Woodstock, Georgia.

Mary Smith married John Petree on 11 Nov 1832 in Lincoln County, North Carolina according to her obituary. Her gravestone has been moved from its stand and laid on the grave. It is deteriorating, but is still readable.

Lawson H. Petree was born 11 Apr 1832 in North Carolina and died 6 May 1904 in Cherokee County, Georgia. He is buried near his wife, Rosanna Dobbs Petree in the Little River Methodist Church Cemetery, located on Highway 92 east of Woodstock, Georgia. Lawson married Rosanna Dobbs on 27 Dec 1849 in Cherokee County, Georgia. He was the second child of John Petree and Amanda Martin.

Rosanna Dobbs Petree was born 2 Apr 1832 and died 28 Apr 1920 in Cherokee County, Georgia. She was the fifth child of Balaam and Elizabeth Dobbs.

Nancy Eveline Edwards was born 17 Apr 1837 and died 16 Jan 1914 in Cherokee County, Georgia. She is buried in the Little River Methodist Church Cemetery, located on Highway 92 east of Woodstock, Georgia.

Nancy married Wilburn T. Petree, son of John and Mary Petree, on 8 Oct 1854. He went west in search of gold and died in Denver of camp colic. Nancy's gravestone includes a memorial to her husband, Wilburn who was born 29 Sep 1834 and died 4 Sep 1860. Nancy next married Robert McMillan.

Henry King Petree was born 28 Jan 1856 and died 8 Feb 1917. Lucretia J. (Gober) Petree, his wife, was born 6 Apr 1866 and died 25 Apr 1944. Both are buried in the Little River Methodist Church Cemetery, located on Highway 92 east of Woodstock, Georgia. Henry Petree was a son of John and Mary Petree.

Burtha Petree was a child of Henry King Petree and Lucretia J. Gober. Burtha was born 9 Aug 1892 and died 1 Sep 1892. She is buried in the Little River Methodist Church Cemetery, located on Highway 92 east of Woodstock, Georgia.

Alexander and Lillian Petree were children of Russell Reyno Petree and Caroline J. Dupree. Alexander was born 28 Mar 1878 and died 23 Oct 1879. Lillian was born 4 Sep 1888 and died 14 Oct 1891. Both are buried in the Little River Methodist Church Cemetery, located on Highway 92 east of Woodstock, Georgia.

Laura Ann Trippe was the daughter of John K. Trippe and Francis Caroline Petree. She was born 26 Mar 1866 and died 16 Jul 1867. She is buried in the Little River Methodist Church Cemetery, located on Highway 92 east of Woodstock, Georgia. Francis Caroline Petree was a daughter of John and Mary Petree.

William Lucious Petree was a child of Elbert Twiggs and Deliah Elizabeth (Roach) Petree. William was born 29 Jul 1891 in Cherokee County. The death date given on his stone is incorrect. He died 25 Apr 1947 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Both the funeral home records and a funeral notice published in the Portsmouth newpaper on 27 Apr 1947 confirn this.
