From Mormon Immigration Index - Voyages. BMR, Book #1042, p189-197 (FHL #025,693)

Departed 6 Sep 1879 from Liverpool on SS Wyoming, arriving in NY Sept 16th, 1879. Arrived in Salt Lake City September 24th. 336 LDS immigrants were on board.

"During the voyage across the Atlantic the emigrants experienced a severe storm Sept 8th, during which the sea washed the deck repeatedly. On 16th of September in the evening the emigrants arrived safely in New York, and on the following day the journey was continued by rail westward. The company arrived safe and well in Ogden and Salt Lake City, Sept. 24th, 1879."

(grandchildren of George Burch Jr.):
George Burch Sr. joined the church in 1848. Came to Utah in 1879. Lived in Utah one year before he died in 1880. He lived with his son George Jr. in Springville, Utah. George Burch Jr. joined the church in England in 1864 just before coming to Utah.

George Burch, born 1819, joined the LDS and left in 1879 for the U.S.A. Susanna Coombs, his wife stayed in England.

Great Grandfather Burch's history is also interesting. He worked in the livery stable and took care of the horses for some lord and Great Grandmother Burch worked as a maid in the home. That is how they met. Grandfather Burch was the only member of the family who joined the Church at that time and came to Utah. His father joined later and and came to Utah, but his mother never did.

My Dear Son,
I have been very anxiously expecting a letter from you for some time past - and I think as you promised to send to me as soon as convenient. I naturally thought you would have done so before this particularly as it was your Father’s wish. as you are aware when Father left home he left me money for a year and as it is now considerably over that time, you will readily understand that I am getting short, Ernest has been very good to me and does all in his power but I cannot expect him to do all Chrissie has gone from home as assistant mistress in a school near Liverpool and is getting barely enough to keep her she I know would willingly assist me if she could but at present will not be able, Joe is still with Anna at Bruton he has not been home for two years, the weather here is very severe we have had about a fortnight; hard frost and there is every prospect of it continuing. I am very lonely now having no one only my two lodgers of whom no doubt you have heard Father speak. I often think that Father was disappointed at not finding things as he had expected or I do not think for a moment he would have left me - you know Dear George that I am not like a young woman and shall have to depend on my children for support now your Dear Father is gone so hoping you will at any rate let me have a letter
