Edward Chope � Mary Young

Ann Elizabeth Chope was born 28 May/Nov 1824 in Devon, near Huntshaw. She emigrated with her family in 1837 eventually marrying Thomas J. Wilson in Detriot, Michigan on June 19, 1844. This family moved to Missouri and then to Clark County, Washington. Family has Edward Chope and Mary listed as family and has a hand-written copy of her baptism from Huntshaw.

Family story has it that Anna went to the Hunchman�s Revel with her father and that her father was Lord of the manor and that the family was disgraced because son Edward killed one of the king�s deer. Ordinarily I would dismiss this, but the family also said the oldest daughter �Besty� was contacted by lawyers in England.

Have located Edward Chope �occupier� of higher Guscott to Lord Clinton �proprietor� assessment 2 1 8 for 1829. 1831 shows Thom. Chope occupier of �partt of Wheittyes (spell?)�, John Cook proprietor and also Edward Chope again Higher Guscott for Lord Clinton. Also with Lord Clinton is William Dennis (in-law of Chope) at East & West Haddacott. In 1832, Thomas Chope is still at Whesley with John Cook and Edward Chope and William Dennis with Lord Clinton on their same property.

Perhaps Edward and his daughter took �rent� to the Lord of the manor instead of being Lord of the manor?
