Introduction
Samuel was probably born in Maryland and traveled with his parents to southern Virginia around 1782. He married Elizabeth Dillman, who is most likely related to his brother Jacob's wife, Barbara Dillman. Possibly, they were sisters. Samuel spent his adult life farming in Franklin County. He and Elizabeth raised four children to adulthood, as indicated in his 1843 will. Elizabeth probably preceded him in death, as she is not mentioned in his will.
