In the name of God amen  I Hugh Car do commit my soul to God who made it and I do leave and bequest to my beloved wife Anne the whole management of the land and all my other affects in order to raise the family and as she arise to the years of dissolution let her divide among them according as her stock will afford and if at any time she sees cause to sell the land I do implore her to sell it and a sufficient right to the purchases agreeable to the Carrs of this estate this is the true intent and meaning of my last will and testament given under my hand and seal this 2 day of October anno dominy 1784.                                        his mark

At a court held for Prince Edward County May 16th 1785.  This last will and testament of Hugh Carr deceased was presented in court and proved by the oath of James Forsythe and Robert Porter two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.  On the motion of Ann Carr who gave her bond and took the oath required by Law Certificate for attaining letters of administration with the will claimed is granted her.
