I was born in Maryhill, Elgin (the Cathedral town of old) which is situated in the county of Moray, NE Scotland. It's known as the centre of the garden of Moray. A market town with Whisky distilling, brewing, flour milling etc., and the ruins of a 13th century cathedral known as 'The Lanthorn of the North', which was founded in 1224 by Andrew, Bishop of Moray. My father Phillip Geoffrey Perry, a native of Lancashire, England was a Chief Petty Officer on board H.M.S. Bulwark in the Royal Navy and then later a campaigner for A.A. and a Merchant Seaman. My mother Louise Alma Ford, a Banffshire born Nurse (who worked at Turner Memorial Hos., Keith and later at Dr. Gray's, Elgin) and eldest child of Marchman and former Quarry Worker Richard Francis Ford who hailed from Aberdeenshire. The Scottish side of the family came from Banffshire, Aberdeenshire, Moray and Nairnshire, with a few scattered here and there. Most of my research concerning the Fords and McGregor's are with thanks to many days interviewing my mother & Great Auntie Mary from Victoria, Australia. While details on the origins of Cossentine & Hopkins are with great thanks to the late Henry John Cossentine, of Pentiction B.C., Canada (and to Maria Jones for passing his work onto me) & to Penny Hiatt for providing me with much Hopkins information to a great extent I base by own research on. The descendent line of Esslemont (including details) was provided by Bob Esslemont's excellent site The Esslemont/Esselmont Family Page, which you can also find a river full of links and history concerning the Esslemont name. The name Findlater which again is being extensively researched by Alexander Findlater (among others) at his website Findlater.org.uk.
