The Nebraska Bartuneks from near Prague and Copenhagen.
Using the color from the lion's crown on the Bohemian Guest, the graphic says Bartunek.

Grandfather Bartunek came from Bohemia

The Bohemian Crest of Old, a grayish lion on a rich red background.

Executive Summary:

My husband's Grandfather, Antón Bartunek said he came from Bohemia. The crest he knew is in the upper right. Actually, Antón Bartunek was from Oujezdec, in Kutna Hora, outside of Prague. It appears that his brother James was the first to come to America, encouraging the others to make the trip. A decendancy chart is available beginning with Antón's father, Joseph Bartunek, choose between the graphic version or the text.

Second and third hand stories are abundant, but we have nothing from Antón Bartunek, the man who is said to have come to America with his brothers to avoid conscription. Antón told the authorities he was a harness maker because farmers were not being welcomed when he arrived in the United States. So it was that Antón farmed and his wife and son ran a harness shop and dry goods store so that Antón would keep his word to the authorities.

There's much work to be done to figure out how Antón came to Nebraska, perhaps discovering his brothers will help. His daughter, Kathleen Bartunek Gillen (1903-1969) saved some pictures and notes about the family that were passed along to my husband, Frank-Edward Gillen.

We do know it was in Wolbach, Nebraska that Antón married Ida Nelson who had immigrated to America from Copenhagen. We have what appears to have been a wedding picture of Antón and Ida Bartunek. They had three children, Leo, Kathleen and Edward. The youngest was Edward who died in 1918. The couple moved to Ord, Nebraska. Since beginning this project, we discovered that Ida and Antón were divorced. Antón married Rose Bubinek and had a fourth child, Hope.
