The
Wells Family
The
first family to come to Wayne County from Gilmer County.

The couple at the far right, John Yancey and Mary
Jane Wells, are thought to have been the first of the Gilmer County contingent
to move the Wayne County. They came in 1906, in covered wagons and driving
their stock, and settled in the Empire Community. The second girl from
the left is Lemma Wells, the mother of Jimmy Parker of Ludowici.

A group of the descendants
of John Yancy and Mary Jane Wells was on hand for the Gathering in 2000,
including his great-great-grandson, Jim Parker of Reidsville, center front.
Others in the Wells family, from left, are granddaughter Mary Ida Parker Tatum of Hinesville, great-granddaughter Vicki Parker of Thomson, granddaughter Glenda Wells Rowell of Jesup, grandson Jimmy Parker of Ludowici, and Shirley and Ray Wells of Ellijay (he is a great-grandson).
