I have been doing family research for several years now and have found it to be rewarding and fun. I have met cousins that I probably would have never met before if I hadn't started this project. My mother and I started researching the Girard Family History almost 30 years now and from then on it continues to grow. My mother has also researched Dean, Collins, Holmes, and Scholl. Other families that I have researched are: Rabusch and Stark. On my husband's side: Dahlin, Nelson, Jorgensen, Odeen.
Pierre Girard was the son of Etienne and Marguerite (Gibouleau) Girard; he said he was born in the town of Les Sables-d'Olone, bishopic of Lucon in Poitou, today department of Vendee. Pierre was ba ptized around 1645. For a very long time, the Olonnais had lived by fishing for cod and whale fishing. He had gone to LaRochelle, France, looking for work during his youth.
