Marvin J. Girouard earned his undergraduate degree in
marketing from Texas A&M University in 1961.
In 1983, Mr. Girouard retired from the U. S. Naval
Reserve with the rank of Commander after 20 years
of service. He also served five years with the U. S. Navy
and performed combat duties in Vietnam.
Mr. Girouard was named Pier 1 Imports senior vice president
of merchandising in 1985 after holding various marketing
positions during a 10-year tenure with Pier 1 Imports.
As senior vice president of merchandising, he was
responsible for the administration and control of
merchandise, buying, advertising and inventory management.
Mr. Girouard assumed his CEO responsibilities in 1998 and
became Chairman in 1999.
Mr. Girouard is an active member of the Executive Committee
for the U.S. Committee for UNICEF-The United Nations
Children's Fund.
He also serves on the board of directors
for Pier 1 Imports, Inc., Brinker International, and
Tandy Brands Accessories, Inc.
He is a member of the
College of Business Administration Development Council
at Texas A&M University and serves on the International
Board of Visitors for M.J. Neeley School of Business at
Texas Christian University.
In 1995, Girouard was honored
with an award for outstanding Alumni for the College of
Business Administration and Graduate School at
Texas A & M University.
He also received the Hugh Downs Award from the U.S.
Committee for UNICEF in 1994.
