Kilkenny of Toronto (and Ireland)
Participant 21718

Aralt Mac Giolla Chainnigh Project

This information was provided by the researcher who recruited the participant:

The name Kilkenny is pretty rare in Ireland, and those that bear the name are highly concentrated in pockets (both historically and today). [Participant] comes from County Leitrim in Ireland, in the parish of Aughavas, which is the biggest group, and quite close to the most likely area that my ancestors came from. County Sligo is just across the county border. There were virtually no Kilkennys in Sligo when my family came to Canada, but only a few who seemed to be part of the larger distribution in Leitrim.

[Participant] mentioned that the family originally came from County Galway. I don't know how far back he is talking - I would think probably a couple hundred years. The Kilkennys in Mayo - the third concentration claim to come originally from Leitrim.

[Participant] 21718 has no sons, only daughters.
