1.  Immigrant ancestor: Thomas Kinney (Great Grandfather) was born in county Wexford, Ireland.  He arrived in the U.S. (ca. 1833, age 9), and has been located in Utica, NY, in 1854, where he married Jane Byrnes/Burns, an Irish immigrant from County Wicklow, Ireland. After marriage, they moved to the Rockford, lL area.  They had four children in IL, then moved to Fox Lake, WI, where they had five more children.  Thomas enlisted in the Union Army in Fox Lake and was discharged at the end of the war. He returned and farmed there until his death in 1877.  Wife Jane died there in 1907.

Participant writes: The basic problem I have with Thomas Kinney is that I haven't been able to find him nor his family from Ireland---where he was born, lived, ancestry, etc.    I have searched immigration (arriving ships, etc), the 1840 and 1850 census with no luck. He appears in the 1860 census with family in Ridott, IL, and the 1870 census in Fox Lake, WI. The rest of the family tracks pretty well through 1930.  The National Archives in Washington, DC has about 100 pages of documentation provided when Thomas' wife Jane attempted to obtain a widow's pension after his death in 1877.  Nothing before they were married (1854) though.

The children dispersed to Rockford, IL (Joseph), Denver, CO. (Francis); Lamoure County, ND (homesteader Charles in 1882; Thomas J., John, Jenny and Mary Ellen by 1902); Barkley died young in Fox Lake, WI. Charles had 16 children who lived their lives in Lamoure county, ND (3); St. Louis, MO (2); western Washington State (10); and Alaska (1).  Joseph's children in Rockford, IL (4); remainder unknown
