2.
Anna Louise (Lou) MARRIOTT2,10,11,12 was born on Oct 12, 1879 in Kansas
or Illinois.13,14 She always said she was born in Waverly, Kansas. Census
records consistently list her birthplace as Illinois. She died on May 17, 1968
in Lawton, Comanche Co., Oklahoma. She was buried on May 22, 1968
in Highland Park Cemetary, Lawton, Comanche Co., Oklahoma.15 Always known as "Lou". Signed everything
Mrs. L.A. Winkelman
She always maintained that all the kids were born on the farm in Chattanooga.
1910 and 1920 census records show that Mildred was born in Colorado, and Ovid
and Laura were born in Kansas. She had also told us she was born in Winfield,
KS. The 1885 Kansas state census lists her as born in Kansas, but the 1910 and
1920 federal census lists her as born in Illinois.
According to Uncle Percy, she met Sam while living on her Dad's farm south of
Lawrence, KS
Anna Louise (Lou) MARRIOTT and Samuel William WINKELMAN were married on Dec
10, 1902 in Denver, Denver Co., Colorado. They always claimed they
were married in 1899. Aunt Mildred and the older children have always held to
this. I have a certified copy from the Colorado archives and it clearly says
1902.
Samuel William
WINKELMAN16,17,18 (son of
Benjamin Frederick WINKELMAN and Ora Sophy WOOLLEY) was born on Jun 11, 1876
in Kansas.19 He owned 160
acres bought on Jun 23, 1910 in Tillman Co, Oklahoma.20 He died on Sep 10, 1941 in Chattanooga, Tillman Co.,
Oklahoma. He was buried on Sep 13, 1941 in Highland Park Cemetary,
Lawton, Comanche Co., Oklahoma.15
Samuel was a farmer, like the other Winkelmans. He was raised by his great
uncle Jacob and his aunt Eliza (his mom's sister). He may have been adopted
by them as well, though there would have been no name change if he was. He deeple
resented his father "abandoning" him this way and so had very little
contact with the second family. He did keep in touch with his brother Bert (now
Wells). He met his wife Anna, at her father's farm near Lawrence, Kansas. In
1910 he secured a patent on 160 acres in Tillman County, Oklahoma and moved his
family there to farm. All the kids remember him as being very strict with a
very volitile temper. Anna Louise (Lou) MARRIOTT and Samuel William WINKELMAN
had the following children:
