Two Brothers Migrate To Fayette County, Illinois

Samuel and Thomas Andrews, brothers, migrated to Fayette Co., IL, from Williamson Co., TN, about 1830. Other researchers have shown these two brothers to be the siblings of Mary Andrews who married Barnett Donaldson, another Fayette County settler, and likely children of John Andrews of Williamson Co., TN. While I agree with these conclusions, this sketch only addresses the families of Samuel and Thomas.

Samuel Andrews was born 8 Sep., 1788 in North Carolina. He fought in the War of 1812, and married Kitturah Dunnigan. Kitturah was born 6 Jan., 1788 in North Carolina. Samuel and Kitturah had several children in Tennessee before settling in Seminary Township in Fayette County, where they had more children. In the 1840's Samuel served as Justice of the Peace for the area. Samuel died 19 May, 1847 in Seminary Township, and Kitturah died there 28 Oct., 1859. The pair are buried in Seminary Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois.

Thomas Andrews was born 16 Dec., 1798 in North Carolina. He married Susannah Dunnigan, sister of his brother's wife, in Tennessee. Susannah was born 22 Dec., 1798 in South Carolina. The couple had several children in Tennessee, then moved to Bear Grove Township in Fayette County and had some more. Thomas died 14 Oct., 1865 at home in Bear Grove Twp., Fayette Co., IL, and Susannah died there 15 Sep., 1877. The couple may be buried in Mulberry Grove Cemetery, Mulberry Grove, IL. In fact, I can remember finding what I believe was Susannah's headstone there in the 1980's but it had corroded very badly. The next time I looked for it, the stone was no longer readable.

Between these two brothers' families, many Andrewses were born in Fayette County. The brothers' children also married into many well-represented families in the area, including the Evans, Elam, Carroll, Bowles, and Washburn families, all of which are thoroughly researched. If you would like more information on any of those families beyond what is in the database, contact me and I'll see what I can dig up.
