Was born in the state of New York in the year 1828. In 1851 he moved to Ohio, and remained one year. He then went
to Virginia for a short time, when he removed to St. Louis, remaining there about two years. He then left and settled
in the city of Quincy, Illinois, where he remained four years. From there he went to Hancock county, and stayed
until 1862, when he enlisted in the 118th regiment Illinois infantry as a private, but was soon after detailed
as hospital steward in Camp Butler. He served in that capacity for one year, when, on account of good conduct,
he was promoted to assistant surgeon, which position he held until the close of the war, when he was honorably
discharged and returned to his family in Hancock county, where he continued the practice of medicine for about
two years. He then moved to Pike county and settled in the town of Nebo, Speing Creek township, where he is now
engaged successfully in the practice of his profession. In the spring of 1870 the Doctor was appointed postmaster
in his town, which honorable office he now holds to the satisfaction of his many warm friends.
