Was born in Pendleton county, South Carolina, October 26th, 1796. He was the second son of Joshua and Mary Ham.
Mrs. Ham was the daughter of the brave General Williams, of revolutionary fame. Mr. Joshua Ham, though then a lad,
witnessed the battle at Guilford court house. He served as a soldier in the war of 1812, under the command of Andrew
Jackson.
Mr. James Ham emigrated with his parents to Tennessee, when only twelve years of age. His father died in Marcracken
county, in 1837. His wife survived him until 1839. James Ham, Esq., was married at the age of twenty-two, to Miss
Mary, daughter of Mathias and Anna Broils. Mr. Broils was a native of Virginia. His wife was born in North Carolina.
They had a family of nine children, of whom Mrs. Ham is the second. She was born in Green county, East Tennessee,
November 10, 1800.
Mr. and Mrs. Ham have had a family of eight children, seven of whom are yet living. In the spring of 1830 they
emigrated to Pike county, Illinois, and settled on section 30, now situated in Chambersburg township. His vocation
was that of a farmer. He owned over twelve hundred acres of fine land at the time of his death, which occurred
September 19th, 1868. Mrs. Ham is yet living, now making her home with her daughter, the wife of Orson Remington.
