Was born in the town of Lebanon, York county, Maine, on the 14th of May, 1826. He is the second son of Joshua and
Sarah Libby. He received a good, solid, English education in the schools of his native state. After leaving school
he turned his attention to mechanical engineering, and his occupation for a long time has been that of a bridge
builder.
In 1853 he was married to Miss Marion B., daughter of Samuel Murray, of Fairlee, Vermont. In 1855 he moved with
his family to Syracuse, New York, where he built the city water works. In 1865 he removed to Illinois, locating
at Griggsville, where he has since resided. As a bridge builder he takes the foremost rank in this section of the
state, in the construction of iron, wooden, and stone bridges. He has done some of the heaviest work now to be
seen in central Missouri. Mr. Libby can be found ever ready to attend to any branches of his work. Give him a call.
