CAPT. A. J. LOVELL

Was born in Pike county, Mo., in 1829, and remained there until the year 1856. He then moved to Pleasant Hill, Pike county, Ill., where he has since resided, engaged in merchandizing, farming, stock raising, and buying and shipping grain and stock. He was one among the first in 1861 to respond to the call for volunteers to put down the rebellion, and went to work in good earnest to raise a company, in which he succeeded, and joined the 10thregiment Missouri infantry. After serving his full time he was honorably discharged, and returned home to his business, which he has pursued very successfully ever since. In 1863 Capt. Lovell was married to Miss R. A. Barton, of Illinois. He had born to him four children, only one of whom is now living. The captain commenced business in 1856 with a very small capital, and has had many difficulties to contend with, but by close application and fair dealings with all men, he has succeeded to his full satisfaction. The captain is held in high esteem by his neighbors, and has often been called upon to fill some of the most important offices of his township. He is supervisor of his township at the present time.
