Immigrants to Victoria, Australia: Bilsborrow

BILSBORROW

William John Bilsborrow (1829-1876) was christened in Helmshore, Lancashire England. He was the son of William Bilsborrow and Elizabeth Seed, originally from Bolton-by-Bowland.

At the age of 25, William John Bilsborrow, who living in Bury at the time , sailed from Liverpool on the "Carpentaria" on May 12, 1854 , arriving in Melbourne in August 1854. In the ship's passenger list he was listed as "Wm J Bilsborough" and his occupation as "cabinet maker". His wife Mary (nee Wood) came out to Australia the following year and joined up with him in Emerald Hill. Unfortunately, she and their daughter Anne, died in 1857.

William's second marriage was to Helen Youl (1835-1877), in Emerald Hill in 1858.

They had the following children who were all born in Emerald Hill:

The three youngest children went to live with their grandparents, John and Mary Youl at Bontherambo, following their parents' deaths.
