DON

James Don (c1804-1883) and his wife Janet (nee Rorison c1807-1898) were married in Glasgow, Scotland in 1830. In 1852 they emigrated to Australia on the "Aberfoyle" with their children, arriving in Melbourne in December and settling in Castlemaine.

Their children were:

• Margaret Don (c1831-1902) who married Thomas Turner Pownall in 1854
• Peter Henderson Don (c1833-1899) who married Elizabeth Ann Parker in 1857
• Jessie Don (c1835-1907) born in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland, who was a dressmaker who married John Barr (in 1854), then Frederick Charles Augustus Bond (in 1856) and finally James Shorter in 1864
