KIRKWOOD
James Kirkwood, the son of William
Kirkwood and Janet Baillie, was born in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland in 1829.
He married Jane Furphy in Kangaroo Ground, Victoria in 1853. They
settled in Romsey and had 5 children:
- William Kirkwood (1855-1877)
who accidentally shot himself at the age of 21 and later died from
his wounds.
- John Kirkwood (1859-1939) a
Produce Agent who married Rosetta Neal in 1888. They both later moved to
Warrnambool and then Auburn.
- Euphemia Elizabeth Kirkwood (c
1857- ) who married Reuben Chapman in 1879
- James Saurin Kirkwood
(c1865-1941) who married Minnie Howard in 1888.
After Jane's death in 1869, James
(senior) married Deborah Humphries in 1870.
Their children included:
- Robert Kirkwood (1871-1948) who
married Mary Mustey
- Sarah Jane Kirkwood
(1872-1951)
- David Kirkwood (1874-1940) who
married Ada Margaret McCrimmon
- Jessie Ann Kirkwood (1875-1940)
who married William Thomas Pellow
- Isabella (1877- )
- William Alexander (1878-
)
- Gilbert Humphries (1879-
)
- Hannah Maria Kirkwood (1882-
)
James died at the age of 57 in 1887
and is buried in Lancefield Cemetery.
John and Rosetta's children, all
born in Warrnambool, were:
- Daisy Maud Kirkwood
(1889-1889)
- Frederick James Kirkwood
(1890-1956) who married Katherine McCullough. Frederick served
in WW1 and received the
Military Medal.
- John (Jack) Kirkwood (1891 to
1853) who married Aimee Martha Elizabeth Whybrow.
- Rosetta Kirkwood
(1893-1899)
- Maud Inez Kirkwood
(1898-1941)
- Rosetta (Etta) Kirkwood
(1900-1997), who married Gordon Hector Bilsborrow
