PROCTOR
John Proctor (1831-1913), the son
of Thomas Proctor and Sarah Rogers, was born in Nettleton in
Wiltshire. He came out to Australia on the "Indian Queen" which
departed England on the 18th of January 1854 and arrived in Melbourne
in April 1854. He was later followed out by his sister Mary (later
Clay) and his brother George. He married Johanna More at Carisbrook in 1857.
John and Johanna lived at Mt
Beckworth and had a store in Clunes, but left after riots and went to
Catumnal near Boort where they selected land for farming.
John and Johanna's children
were:
- Margaret (Maggie) Proctor
(1857-1933) who married George Coles Parker
- Sarah Proctor (1859-1948) who
married Phillip Gulley Cameron in 1879
- Elizabeth (Bessie) Proctor
(1861-1950) who married William John Facey and lived in Boort.
- Thomas Proctor (1863-1953) who
married Hannah Matilda Johannasen
- John(Jack) Proctor (1865-1933 )
who married Hetta Elizabeth (Ettie) Williamson in 1895
- Ellen (Nellie) Proctor
(1867-1956) who married Marcus Frederick (Marc) Smith in
1895
- Jane (Janie) Proctor (1869- )
who married John Williamson in 1891
- Annie Proctor (1872- ) who
married Andrew (Dan) Dalgleish in 1895
- James (Jim) Proctor, Annie's
twin brother, who married Mary Jane (Polly) Bell in
1872
- Henry (Harry) Proctor
(1874-1955) who married Violet Williamson
- Emily Jemima (Tottie) Proctor
(1880-1959 ) who married Jack Perry
John and Johanna were buried at the
New Melbourne Cemetery Fawkner in the Old Methodist Section which was later
cleared and grassed.
