Immigrants to Victoria, Australia: Shorter

SHORTER

James Shorter (c1828-1908) was born in Blunsdon, Witshire, England to James Shorter, a baptist minister, and Ann (nee Clack).

At the age of 25, he migrated to Australia aboard the "Ballarat", departing London  on  August 8/9, 1852  and arriving in Melbourne on November 4, 1852. He was listed as a "Wine Merchant"

James Shorter's first marriage to Mary Ann Elizabeth Beckett in 1856 produced two children:

By 1858 he was a publican running the Orville Hotel in Muckleford, relocating to the Supreme Court Hotel in Castlemaine in 1859.

James' second marriage in 1864 was to Jessie Bond (c1835-1907) (nee Don). At the time of the marriage he was a hotel keeper in Daylesford.

They had the following children:
