PRIESTLEY

The PRIESTLEYs were workers in the stone quarries of West Riding and North Derbyshire, the stone dust they breathed caused the early deaths of many of the men.
My children's great-grandfather, Joseph Priestley, was born near Hade Edge where his father and grandfather had worked in the quarries before him. He served in the army in WWI along with his elder brother Herbert.

Both brothers moved to Glossop where they worked in Glossop Low Quarries, Joe later worked a stone planing machine.

Herbert's sons were the last quarrymen in the family, working at Mouselow quarry; Leslie was a gravestone cutter and Stanley a stone dresser.

This is the direct line I am following; I have more detail on these people and some other information on the branches.
