The Owen County Public Library is open on Mondays from 9:30 AM until 8:00 PM and Tues-Sat from 9:30 AM until 5:00 PM. The Library houses the records of the County Clerk's office on microfilm. The Library has a microfilm reader, but does not currently have a printer. Xerox copies of printed materials may be made for $0.10/copy. Several titles among the Library's collection should be of interest to historians and genealogists. The staff will gladly answer simple inquiries and forward requests for information to members of the Historical Society. The Owen County Historical Society maintains a collection of historical and genealogical materials which is housed at the Library. This collection includes local records, family histories, census records, and cemetery records. We also house the county newspaper (News-Herald) microfilms from 1905 to 1995. The Historical Society has a number of publications for sale (see below) which may be purchased through the mail to the Library. Genealogists traveling to Owen Co. may be interested to know that the Owen County Courthouse is closed on Wednesdays and on Saturday afternoons. Please feel free to post our e-mail address and telephone number (502-484-3450) and let us know if we can be of any further help. Genealogical Books & Pamplets Arranged by cost: The following are mostly newspaper reprint pamphlets and sell for
A new looseleaf history on Lusby Mills is now available but pricing information is not. This is apparently a reprint of a January 1948 booklet printed by The Owenton News-Herald for the Lusby Mills Homemakers, a ladies club. The quality of the original was generally excellent, containing many photos of structures and people. (These have suffered in the copy work.) But there are many useful histories, stories, and biographies. The language work here is book quality. Cost area will be $10 to $15. |
