Jasper Ephrim MORGAN

Memories of her parents by Mae Morgan Branch:

My daddy, Jasper Ephrim Morhan and known a "Eaph", could be seen plowing gardens around Nahunta to make a little extra money. He was a sharecropper for E. L. Sears of Nahunta. He always had milk cows and one time, I remember well, we had company and we were milking a red cow with a white face. The little boys were on the fench watching as we milked, and one little boy aksed, "Mr. Morgan, which one gives the chocolate milk?"

Mother was not very well when I was a child. She worked inside the home making our cloathes and cooking the best meals. She always told us, "It is nice to be important, but it is important to be nice."

Daddy was traveling down U.S. Hwy 301 in his wagon pulled by horses when some tourists from New York stopped him and aksed if he would take their children for a ride.  he took the children down the road for a ride and the father gave my daddy some money for the ride. Daddy had a four-horse plow that he used a lot in his plowing.

James Samuel HARRIS I

JAMES SAMUEL HARRIS:
In 1870, he was living with his parents and siblings in Waynesville, Wayne County, Georgia. On 12/26/1878 he married Martha Hickox, b. 1864 Wayne County, Georgia, daughter of James Hickox and Nancy McClellan. In 1870 James and Martha were living with Martha's mother Nancy Hickox in Wayne County. Martha's father, John,  apparently died between 1870 and 1880. In 1880 James, Martha and children were living in Wayne County. In 1900 James and the children were living in Hoboken, Pierce County. They lived in the Trail Ridge (Firetower Ridge) area between Nahunta and Hoboken. It appears that Martha had died between 1880 and 1900. James is not found in the 1910 or 1910 census, so he may have died between 1900 and 1910.

Ebenezer B. HARRIS

source
EBENEZER HARRIS was born in 1803 in North Carolina. He came to Wayne County, Georgia at an early age with his brother Jimpsey, b. 1817 and his sister Louisa, b. 1810. Their parentage is not known, although their father may have been the Francis Harris who lived in Wayne County in 1820. In August 1827 in Wayne County, Georgia, Ebenezer married Martha Purdom, b. 1812, daughter of Thomas Purdom and Mrs. Mary Ann Dennison, widow of William Dennison. Ebenezer died about 1883 in Wayne County, Georgia. Martha died about 1875, also in Wayne County. Ebenezer was commissioned November 11, 1825, as Militia Captain, 335th district of Wayne County and served several years. He was granted 356 acres of land by the State in 1837, and 550 acres in 1856. These lands laid in the part of Wayne that was formerly in Glynn County prior to 1805, and not in the original County of Wayne (which had been divined into lots and districts, each lot being 490 acres and drawn in the State lottery of 1805). This land would now be somewhere in Brantley County, between the north-south part of the Satilla River and the Post Road.
