In his boyhood, his parents moved to Hamilton County, Florida, and he
grew up and lived there the remainder of his life.
Henry M. Cason volunteered and enlisted in 1862 in Company "B". 10th
Florida Infantry Regiment, CSA.
He died rather suddenly in camp near Savannah, Georgia, Oct. 27, 1863.
His body was brought home and buried at Prospect Primitive Baptist Church.

William M. Hunter, III was a farmer by trade. He enlisted in the 10th Florida Infantry, Company B, at Jasper, Florida on March 14, 1863. He was hospitalized in late 1864. When it became obvious that the Confederacy had lost the war and Florida was overrun by the invading Union, he left his command in January 1865 while on picket duty and joined the Union Army. he took the oath January 20, 1865 at City Point and was sent to Jacksonville. He was hospitalized in January, 1865 at U.S, Fort Hood. At this time he was described as being 5'6" tall, blue eyes, dark skin and hair, and his residence was Hamilton County.
Two of William's sons were elected sheriff of Hamilton County. William Rufus, the first son of William to hold this office, assumed the position in January, 1929. In May, 1931, he resigned due to failing health. He was succeeded by his brother, Joseph Horace, who served out the unexpired term and remained to serve a number of years.
William M. Hunter died at his home in Hamilton County on April 15, 1912 and is buried in Prospect Church Cemetery beside his first wife.
