www.genforum.com posting on March 1, 2002 by Marie Alexander Fraser, a farmer in Muirtown, with his wife Sarah Ferguson and ten children came from Inverness to Caledonia, NY in 1805 in the ship "George Buchanan," to join an uncle [Simon Fraser] and several cousins who had come over in "The Trapper" in 1803. One of our members is a great-great-grandson of Deacon Donald Fraser (1806-1884) by his second wife Catherine Bremner (1812-1887). Deacon Donald Fraser with his first wife Janet Ross and six children left the Caledonia, NY area about 1830 and settled in Williams Township, near Nairn, Upper Canada (Ontario).

Another CFS of Canada member was originally under the impression that her ancestors Donald Fraser (1796-1884) & Isabella Fraser (1799-1884) had come to Canada directly from Scotland, whereas, in fact, they had come over with their parents and were married in Caledonia, NY in 1818 before moving to Galt, Upper Canada (Ontario). Isabella's parents were Alexander Fraser (1761-1842) & Sarah Ferguson and Donald's parents were John Fraser (1764-1847) & Mary McDonald, and their respective paternal grandfathers were brothers. Following the death of his wife Sarah Ferguson in 1813, Alexander Fraser (1761-1842) married Mary McKinley, a widow, and died in Caledonia, NY. His sister Sarah Fraser, who had come over in "The Trapper" in 1803, died in Caledonia, NY before 1815. However, Alexander Fraser's other sisters had emigrated to Nova Scotia. Margaret Fraser married Alex McIntosh, settled at Fox Brook, NS but died 1821 in New Brunswick; Mary Fraser
married Donald McDonald and settled at East River; Catharine Fraser married John McBain and settled at St. Mary's; Isabelle Fraser married a McGregor, settled at East River and died 1825. Alexander's brother Donald Fraser (d. 1836) settled at McLellan's Brook, married and had four sons [Donald, Alex, Simon, John] and a daughter [Isabelle]. Donald Fraser's son Donald went to Georgia and bought Gildersleeve Plantation in the 1820s; son John operated a store at McLellans Brook. Alexander's brother Simon Fraser (d. 1812) settled in Liberty County, Georgia; brother John Fraser died unmarried in Georgia; brother Andrew Fraser died in Inverness, but Andrew's son William settled in Liberty County, Georgia. Other descendants of the earlier generation of Fraser brothers from Inverness [Peter, John & Simon] settled at Dumfries, Nairn, Kirkhill (Glengarry County), Upper Canada, Fowlersville, NY and Roswell Cobb/Lebanon, Georgia.
