Elmer Banks, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died Saturday, Jan. 21, at a nursing home here. He was 81 years of age, and had been in failing health in recent years. Mr. Banks was a son of Josiah and Elizabeth Banks, and was born in Scott township March 9, 1874. His early life was spent in that community, where he attended the Rogers school and worked on the farm and on the timberland on adjoining farms. He was married in 1895 to Elizabeth Smith of Madison township. For three years they farmed near Winterset, then moved to the Indian territory, where they took a claim and homesteaded. They proved up on the claim, and lived in Oklahoma 14 years before returning to Winterset. His wife, Elizabeth, preceded him in death. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Minta Campbell, Mrs. Jane Robbins, Mrs. Cora McKee and Mrs. Effie McKee. Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Richard Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Glen Pickett, pastor of the First Baptist church of Winterset. Burial was made in the primitive Baptist cemetery.
