Obituary for Earl Thomas BAZE
Former Renton residents Earl Thomas ``E.T.'' Baze died of surgery complications Sept. 11, 2005, in Auburn and his wife Barbara L. (Arthurs) Baze died of congestive heart failure Sept. 13, 2005, in Eatonville. They lived in Eatonville for the last year. He was 81. She was 76.
Mr. Baze was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Toppenish and served on a Navy supply ship during World War II. Mrs. Baze was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Dayton. They were married Oct. 30, 1949, in Walla Walla and lived in Renton from 1940 to 1978.
Mr. Baze was a jockey, owner and thoroughbred horse trainer. He enjoyed whistling, singing and yodeling.
In her earlier years, Mrs. Baze rode and showed horses, later becoming an owner and trainer. She usually had coffee and oatmeal cookies waiting at the barn.
Horses trained by the couple competed in the Northwest circuit and Canada.
The Bazes were members of the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association and the Washington Breeders Association. They enjoyed life on the racetrack and time with family and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Baze are survived by their daughter, Lisa Baze; and a grandchild. Mr. Baze is also survived by his brothers, Kenny Baze, Carl Baze and Joe Baze; and sisters Alice Orth, Birdie Howry and Ellen Burwell. Mrs. Baze is also survived by her brother, Gordon ``Cork'' Arthurs of Walla Walla; and sister, Sally Van Hemet of Olympia.
A combined committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Tahoma National Cemetery in Maple Valley followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Emerald Downs Racetrack, Breeders (Sales) Pavilion in Auburn.
Arrangements are by Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn.
