Bro Hendley W Gordon was born June 30th 1863 united with Jones Creek Baptist Church in July 1892 He died on the 13th day
of August 1904 a tragic death from a wound inflicted upon him by the ever cruel Pistol in the hands of an antagonist from which he survived only 3 or 4 days. Bro Gordon expressesd to his friends and relatives gathered to his bedside just prior to his dealth his willingness and readiness to die and was impressed that he was prepared. We tender our sympathy to his relatives and friends, and, especially do we sympathize with his grief stricken Wife and six little Children left to mourn his loss. We feel that no one can fill the place of the
Father to his children, and, that one of their best earthly friends has been taken from them. According to the purpose of God we bow in humble submission to his will and trust to meet Bro Gordon in that better world where strife, and, confussion, pain, sickness, and death
cannot enter.

Ellen Talulah Chapman Gordon was the mother of seven children, one of who died in infancy. Her husband, Hendley Gordon was from a large family with wide connections. His father was Hendley Gordon, his mother was Miss Clemintine Simmons. Mr. Gordon descended from and was connected with many families that were prominent in the early history of this section of Georgia. Some of these were: Hendley, Horne, Smith, Simmons, Davis, Maulden, Brewer, Beasley, and Murray.

Betty Ann Pearson
Mrs. Betty Ann Johnson Treadwell Pearson, 71, died early Friday afternoon (July 9, 2004) at her residence following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A native of Pierce County, she had lived all over the United States and abroad when married to her first husband, the late Major M. Leon Treadwell, while he served in the US Army. She had been a resident of Blackshear for the last thirty-seven years. She was a graduate of Blackshear High School and the Georgie Baptist Nursing School, from which she received her degree as a registered nurse. She worked for many years at the Pierce County Hospital before working at the Pierce County Health Department as the Nurse Manager until her retirement in August of 1996. After her retirement she continued to work with her husband, Bernard, at their family business, Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home. She was a member of Blackshear First United Methodist Church, where she had been active for many years and was in the Wesley I Sunday School Class. Betty was also a member of two supper clubs, the Blackshear Supper Club and "The Supper Club". She was an active member of the P.E.O. and the Wednesday Bridge Club. She was a member of the Red Hat society. She was a daughter of the late Allen Jesse and Susie Dixon Johnson. Also preceding her in death were her three brothers, Gene Johnson, Billy Johnson and Robert "Bobby" Johnson. Survivors are her husband of thirty-five years, Bernard S. Pearson of Blackshear; two daughters and sons-n-law, Cindy and George Oberschlake of Perry, Fla. and Sharon and Wade Dial of Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Marc and Wimberly Treadwell of Macon and Blake and Dee Treadwell of Blackshear; ten grandchildren, Will, Ed and Nicole Oberschlake all of Perry, Thomas and John Treadwell both of Macon and Erica, Alex and Lance Treadwell and Audrey and Pearson Dial all of Blackshear; a sister-in-law, Jean Dixon of Blackshear; a nephew, Mike (Wanda) Johnson of Blackshear; her two precious pets, Molly and Missy, and several other relatives. A funeral for Mrs. Pearson will be held Monday morning at 11 at the Blackshear First United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Freddie Wheeler, Dr. Bill Young and the Rev. Roger Mays. Burial will be in the Blackshear Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Pearson will be held Sunday from 3 until 9 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Satilla, 1921 Alice St., Suite A-1, Waycross 31501; the Southeast Cancer Unit, PO Box 2764, Waycross 31502; or to Blackshear First United Methodist Church, 225 Church Street, Blackshear 31516. The body will lay in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
