Message from Lamar Chapman (at Chapman Family Association http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mari/chapman )
I have in my database, RICHARD LAMBRIGHT PENDARVIS, born circa 1788 in Beaufort County, S.C. and died circa 1854. He married HESTER A. STRICKLAND and had the following children:
(1)Isabelle Susanna born 6 Sept 1846 married Mathis Wells Arnett on 3 May 1866. They had 10 children and she died on 12 Jun 1888.

(2)Richard James born circa 1848 Married Sarah Frances Scriews on 1 Dec 1889. He died on 1 Feb 1917 in Blountstown, Fla.

(3)Josiah born 1851-died 1853

Richard Lambright Pendarvis was the son of Josiah Pendarvis.
he died circa 1854.

His widow then became the third wife of JAMES FLEMING CHAPMAN on 12 Sept 1857

Richard STRICKLAND

Richard Strickland was born about 1775. He is first found listed as charter members of the Jones Creek Baptist Church in Liberty County, Georgia. They signed the original covenant on April 22, 1810. Richard is believed to have served in Capt. John Winn's Company of Infantry, 2nd Regiment, Georgia Militia during the War of 1812. He enlisted January 18, 1815 and was discharged February 26, 1815. Church records indicate Richard and Susannah were dismissed from Jones Creek Baptist church on May 24, 1834.

It appears Richard moved his family to Appling County, Georgia around this time. He is listed as Justice of the Inferior Court in Appling County in 1828. Richard and Susannah's children are noted in the church records of Beard's Creek Baptist Church as having been received and baptized in 1832 on the southside of the Altamaha River.

Richards name was recorded as moderator for Goose Creek Baptist Church in Appling County in 1834. He was listed each session through the year 1839. Records for the church for the years 1839 -1845 are missing. Neither Richard or Susannah are found in the 1840 census, so it is assumed they were deceased by this time.

[Abstractor's Note: this copy provided by Jenny Londrico.]

[ Note 1. The cause of death of "appoplexy" appears to be a misspelling of "apoplexy" which Stedman's Electronic Medical Dictionary defines as: A classical but obsolete term for a cerebral stroke, most often due to intracerebral hemorrhage. Origin [G. apoplTxia]

Note 2. The contributing cause of death is somewhat illegible, however, it appears to be "Ch-myocarditis' which I interperet as "Chronic Myocarditis". Stedman's Electronic Medical Dictionary defines myocarditis as: mUcb-kar-dUctis Inflammation of the muscular walls of the heart. mUcb-kar-dUctis]

MRS. SARAH ROBERSON YARBROUGH

Mrs. Sarah Roberson Yarbrough, 92, died Saturday night in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after a long illness. The lifelong resident of Wayne County was a member of the Old Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Granger of Screven and Mrs. Gertrude Thompson of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Clyde Yarbrough and the Rev. L. N. Yarbrough, both of Jesup; two sisters, Mrs. Rada Thompson of Jesup and Mrs. Leila Thompson of Brunswick; four brothers, Walton Roberson of Ludowici, Pierce Roberson of Hinesville, Henry A. Roberson of Jesup and Emmitt Roberson of Oregon; 56 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and 72 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday in the Old Bethel Church with the Rev. W. A. Olds, the Rev. Randall Gibbs, and the Rev. Rufus Marr officiating. Active pallbearers were grandsons; Leon Nelson Yarbrough Jr., W. T. Yarbrough, Albert Yarbrough, Roy Mansfield, Tommy Yaitrough, and Ernest Yarbrough. Honorary pallbearers were J. E. Eason, Uoyd Long, Mel Tootle, Franklin Burch, Ernest Roberson, Eugene Mixon, Vernon Dent, Dr. R. E. Miller, Philip Lightsey, C. M. Owens, Elton Oliver, Elton Tillman and Curtis Tillman. Burial was In the Old Bethel Cemetery under the direction of the NeSmith-Harrison Funeral Home.

Her obituary states she was a lifelong resident of Wayne County, Georgia. I question the accuracy of this statement as her marriage was recorded in Liberty County and as I recall certain census records showed a residence in other counties.

Research: Sarah's maiden name is Sarah Melena Roberson per Jenny Londrico's post on Genealogy.com #1815 dated January 31, 2001. She's the living great grand daughter of Thomas Graham Yarbrough.

Research: However, in post #1815 Jenny says name is Sara not "Sarah", and middle name is "Nancy"

The 1910 Cesnus indicates that Sarah had born 8 children, 6 of whom were presently alive and 6 are listed on the Census, suggesting that two had died before the May 15, 1910 enumeration of the Census.
