Celebrate Golden Wedding

Couple Were Married Fifty Years Ago In St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
By Rev. Mr. Paradis.

With all the members of their family gathered under the parental roof, Mr and Mrs. A. J. Golden of Anderson, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding on Monday, February 25th. Throughout the entire day friends and relatives visited them and extended gifts and good wishes for their future happiness. It was a day of rejoicing and celebration for these two prominent members of the community and everyone expressed the hope that Mr. and Mrs. Golden would celebrate many more anniversaries in comfort and good health. During the evening vocal solos were rendered by their niece , Katherine Golden and their nephew, Kenneth Callam of Detroit.
Fifty years ago on a bright mid winter day Rev. Mr. Paradis, of St. Andes's Presbyterian Church, Amherstburg, performed the marriage ceremony for a A.J. Golden and Margaret Callam at the latter's home on the shores of Callams Bay. Mr. Golden was following in the footsteps of his father , who had married the teacher of the school section of which he was secretary. Margaret Callam was teacher at the Golden school and A. J. Golden was secretary. Their romance began there and has endured through half a century of marital joys and sorrows. Both were well known in the community and their wedding was a union of two of the oldest pioneer families of the district.

Mr Golden was the son of Richard Golden, who came from Ireland in 1852 and settled on the farm where A. J. Golden now resided. He married Margaret Paton, who was the teacher at school section No. 4,, of which he was secretary. Fifty-one years ago A.J. Golden succeeded his father as secretary of the school section. He served in this capacity for 50 years and retired last year when his son William took this position. When he married he and his wife took up residence on the home farm and have lived there since.

Callam's Bay, south of Amherstburg, is so-called because it was here the Alexander Callam, one of the early pioneers of the district built a saw-mill and his home. It was here that Mrs. Golden was born. The other members of her family living are one brother, Capt. A. C. Callam, Amherstburg, and one sister, Mrs. Early Means, New York, N.Y. Mr. Golden has two brothers living, R. E. Golden of Amherstburg, and Henry of Malden.

Their family, wo with their children were all home for the anniversary calibration are: Allan, Anderdon; Paton, St.Thomos; Harry, Anderson, William at home and Isabel, Mrs. Glen Lypps, Colchester South.

Guests from outside the district wo attended were Thomas Gerrie and Mr. and Mrs. K. Callam and son William, of Detroit.
