On December 24, 1921, he was married at Calvert, Texas to Lena Blasienz, the daughter of Francis A. Blasienz and Amanda Jane Massengale Blasienz, according to Smith County Marriage Book 25, page 108.  Lena Blasienz was born November 23, 1889 in Texas.

 

Ernest S. Goens, assistant county attorney for Smith County, and his wife, Lena Blasienz Goens, a school teacher at Douglas School, roomed at 316 west Erwin, according to the 1923 city directory of Tyler, Texas.

 

In 1925 Ernest S. Goens was listed as county attorney, and Lena Blasienz Goens was a teacher at the Tyler High School, still living at 316 West Erwin.  Ernest S. Goens gave a deed to Mrs. James W. Goens September 1, 1926, according to Smith County Deed Book 183, page 64.  They gave a deed to five acres to W. M. Boss for $800 September 22, 1926, according to Smith County Deed Book 183, page 99.

 

An infant was born to Ernest S. Goens and Lena Blasienz Goens and died May 20, 1928 in Smith County, according to BVS File 23123.

 

Ernest S. Goens "of Smith County, Texas" gave a mineral deed to W. A. Pounds and R. C. Ryarly April 10, 1930 to property in Van Zandt County, Texas, according to Van Zandt County Deed Book 205, pages 179, 180 and Deed Book 205, page 221.  Consideration was $100 for one acre of land.

 

Ernest S. Goens continued as Smith County Attorney through 1930.  He lived at 408 Bonner Avenue from 1927 until 1933.

 

On October 16, 1933 Ernest S. Goens received an oil and gas lease from Paul D. Smith on property in Wood County, Texas, according to Wood County Deed Book 137, page 44.  He received an assignment from Ben D. Clower on Minerals in Wood County December 8, 1941, according to Wood County Deed Book 203, page 534.

 

In 1932 Ernest S. Goens was in private law practice under the firm name of Goens & Hutchins.  From 1933 until 1935 he was with Pace & Goens, Attorneys.  In 1936 the firm name was changed to Pace, Goens, & Park.  In 1940 it was again Pace & Goens.  In 1933 Ernest S. Goens and Lena Blasienz Goens moved to 512 West Front Street, Tyler, an address they maintained through 1947, the final entry carried for them in the city directory there.

 

He left an estate valued at $26,062.12, including a residence at 6006 Azalea Lane in Dallas, according to Dallas County Probate File No. 51096-C.  Ernest S. Goens and Lena Blasienz Goens had no living children at the time of his death.

 

In January 1963, Lena Blasienz Goens lived at 7 Brooks Avenue, Eldorado, Texas.  She died there February 28, 1972 of cancer, according to Sutton County Death Book 10, page 46.  According to Mrs. Ernest C. Hill, a sister, she was buried in Little River Cemetery, Hearne, Texas.

 

The estate of Lena Goens at Sonora, who died February 28, 1972, valued at $15,000, was willed to Mrs. Ida Blasienz Hill according to Stonewall County Deed Book 250, page 243.

 

The estate of Lena Blasienz was administered by Ida Blasienz Hill, her sister of Eldorado, Texas, according to Smith County Deed Book 1468, page 758.  Ida Blasienz Hill retained ownership of 85 acres of land in Smith County in 1973 that she inherited from her sister in October 1973.

Preston in Tyler.  In 1964 he lived in Cook County, Illinois, according to Smith County Deed Book 1136, page 206.  He joined his brothers at that time to convey Lots 10 & 11, Block 346, Bellwood Heights, Tyler to James R. Pierce.

"Nellie Gowans," negress, believed to be Nellie Gowen, lived at 1402 West Paul from 1938 to 1950, according to the Tyler city directory.  She was a maid employed at the Blackstone Hotel.  Nellie Gowans, "feme sole" received a deed August 17, 1949 to Lot 3, Block 13, College Heights Addition, Tyler, according to Smith County Deed Book 625, page 544.  From 1950 through 1973 Nellie Gowans lived at 2120 North Gaston Avenue, Tyler, and was employed as a maid at Alamo Plaza, a cook and seamstress.  She retired in 1956.

Tobie Percy Gowans, negro, and his wife, Thibee Preston Gowans, were listed in the 1930 city directory of Tyler as a yardman living at 1704 North Ross Avenue.  In 1932 and 1933 they lived at 1808 North Ross, according to the directory.

 

Thibee Preston Gowans was injured in a public transit vehicle accident  in 1937 and died November 14, 1937, according to BVS File 57199.  Tobie Percy Gowans filed suit against Tyler Transit Company and received a $1,750 settlement, according to Smith County Probate File 5830.

 

Apparently Tobie Percy Gowans died in 1938.  M. B. Preston, his father-in-law was appointed guardian of the children.

Preston, who was appointed his guardian.  He was married about 1944 according to Opal Washington, who was born in Ferris, Texas in 1921.  In 1945 she was listed as a domestic in the Dallas, Texas city directory.

Willie Frank Gowans, fifth child of Tobie Percy Gowans, was born March 19, 1932 in Tyler, Texas according to BVS Files.  In 1938 he lived with his grandfather M. B. Preston, who was appointed his guardian.  In 1950 Willie Frank Gowans, a dishwasher for Manning's Grill was listed in the city directory of Tyler living at 1704 North Ross, previously the home of his parents.  Willie Frank Gowans contracted with East Texas Photo Copy March 31, 1950 to be their janitor for $40 per week, according to Smith County Deed Book 643, page 545.

 

Willie Frank Gowans was married to Gladys Lorene Ford October 29, 1951, according to Smith County Marriage Book 48, page 33.  In 1953 Mrs. T. V. Preston, his grandmother, was appointed his guardian, according to Smith County Probate File 9485.  In 1964 Willie Frank Gowans lived in Dallas, Texas.

Carroll Heard Goyne was born in 1898 probably in Louisiana.

He enlisted July 15, 1917 in the U. S. Army at Camp Nichols, Louisiana.  He served in the Aisne Defensive in June 1918 in the Battle of Chateau Thierry during June and July 1918 and later in the Army of Occupation.  During this action he received a shrapnel wound in his right shoulder.  He returned from overseas August 23, 1919 and was discharged at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, according to Smith County Discharge Book 1, page 183.  He served in Company E, Thirtieth U. S. Infantry Regiment.  He was single and a corporal when discharged.

 

Carroll Heard Goyne and his wife Eunice Goyne, appeared in the city directory of Shreveport, Louisiana from 1930 through 1941.  During all that period he was a driver-salesman for Excelsior Steam Laundry.  In 1930 and 1931 they lived at 1116 Busbey.  In 1932 they lived at 1506 Sycamore.  From 1933 until 1937 they lived at 627 Spring Hill Avenue with two children, according to the Shreveport city directory.  In 1939 and 1940 they were listed at 111 Carrolton.

In 1972 Marshall Lee Goyne was listed as a  taxpayer in Caddo County, Louisiana living at 1856 Ridgecrest Drive.

Army at Abilene, Texas.  Howard Robert Goins, white, married, age 20, served as a private in Company A, First Infantry Regiment.  He went overseas in September 5, 1944 and returned July 15, 1945 after seeing action in Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe.  He was discharged November 16, 1945 and showed his residence at that time as 916 Wackwell Road, Ranger, Texas, according to Eastland County Discharge Book 4, page 233.  His civilian employment was shown as tire rebuilder.

 

He was married to Mary Louise Truly in Eastland County in 1944, according to Eastland County Marriage Book 17, page 86.  He was remarried to Genelle Cook in 1945, who was born at Ranger, Texas in 1928, according to Eastland County Marriage Book 17, page 217.  In 1946, he was listed as a mechanic living at Ranger, Texas.

William J. Goines and his wife, Lou Ester Turpen Goines were residents of Ft. Worth in February of 1889. He died sometime after 1896.  Lou Ester Turpen Goines, "widow of W. J. Goines", lived north of Ft. Worth, according to the 1901 city directory. She was shown in North Ft. Worth in the 1902‑03 city directory. In the 1904‑05 edition she was listed as "Louisa Goings, widow of John W. Goings" who lived on the "north bank of the river, between Calhoun and Jones Streets." She and three other individuals composed the household.

 

On January 7, 1905 "Mrs. Lue Goines" received a warranty deed from Frank Hutto to a lot in North Ft. Worth for $178, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 208, page 81.  "Lue Goines" received a quit claim deed from Lula Percy June 27, 1907 to a lot in North Ft. Worth, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 261, page 144.

 

"Mrs. Lue Goines" gave a warranty deed to Tim Bowden June 28, 1908 to Lot 1, Block 62, North Ft. Worth Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 260, page 435. She received a warranty deed from North Ft. Worth Townsite Company to a lot, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 455, page 499.

 

"Lou E. Goines, the widow of William J. Goines"  was employed by Swift & Company and roomed at 1106 Clinton Avenue, according to the 1909‑10 city directory. From 1911 until 1918 she lived at 1106 Benjamin.  From 1920 to 1922 she lived at 909 Leahy Avenue. On September 19, 1921 she joined her son, Hubert Grammar Goines and L. H. Gray, possibly a son‑in‑law, in giving a warranty deed to Oliver "Ollie" Franklin Goines, another son to Lot 39, Block 230, North Ft. Worth Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 692, page 112 and Deed Book 693, page 112.

 

By 1923 Louisa Ester Turpen Goines had removed to 1104 Benjamin, next door to her previous residence, where she continued to live until 1927, according to the directory.  Louisa Ester Turpen Goines gave a deed of trust to J. W. Ware November 24, 1936 to 281 acres of land in Tarrant County, according to Deed Book 1259, page 311.

Hubert Grammar Goines, first known child of William J. Goines and Louisa Ester Turpen Goines, was born in Tarrant County February 19, 1889, according to Tarrant County Birth Book 9, page 514.   He was shown in the 1907 Ft. Worth city directory as a blacksmith's helper employed by Ft. Worth Machine & Foundry Company, boarding at 309 North Rusk.

 

 He was married to Nora Ella Pickett February 17, 1910, according to Tarrant County Marriage Book 23, page 388.  In 1911 and 1912 Hubert Grammar Goines, a blacksmith, and Ethel were living at 1106 Benjamin with one other person, believed to be his mother. In 1914 he, a blacksmith, was shown at 1104 Benjamin in North Ft. Worth, next door to the residence of his mother. In 1918 he was a coach cleaner living at 502 Grand Avenue.  On November 2, 1921 he received a warranty deed to a lot in Hyde Park Addition, Ft. Worth, from Hyde Park Land Company, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 723, page 73‑77.

 

From 1923 to 1928 he was living at 2115 Columbus Avenue and was employed by the city sewer department and the city engineering department.  On February 16, 1923 Hubert Grammar Goines and Nora Ethel Pickett Goines gave a warranty deed to T. T. Jackson to a lot in Southland Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 779, page 39.  At the same time they gave him a warranty deed to a lot in Ellis Addition.

 

In 1927 Nora Ethel Pickett Goines was employed by the Natatorium Laundry, according to the city directory. She continued at the same employment in 1929 and 1931 and lived on Route 1.  In 1932 Hubert Grammar Goines and Nora Ethel Pickett Goines were living at 3330 West 7th Street. He was a laborer at the city disposal plant at that time.  Nellie R. Goines, unidentified also lived at 3330 West 7th Street in 1932.

 

Hubert Grammar Goines received a warranty deed from Oakwood Farm to a lot October 24, 1934, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 1193, page 441. They received a release from H.O.L.C. February 7, 1947, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 1877, page 102. Reference is made to Tarrant County Deed Book 467, page 19 in the transaction.   Hubert Grammar Goines and Nora Ethel Pickett Goines gave a warranty deed to Nellie R. Angell May 14, 1947 to a lot in Golden Gardens, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 1903, page 606.

 

 On March 11, 1950 Hubert Grammar Goines and Nora Ethel Pickett Goines gave a warranty deed to their children, Betty Lou Goines Storm, a widow; Lois Wilhemina Goines, a feme sole and Carl Elbert Goines, to a lot in Ft. Worth according to Tarrant County Deed Book 2172, pages 23-26.   From 1951 through 1962 Hubert Grammar Goines and Nora Ethel Pickett Goines lived at 2709 Kinman Avenue, according to the Ft. Worth city directory. He was a laborer at 28th Street Welding Service, a business owned by his son in 1951.  From 1952 through 1962 he was a watchman at N. W. Compress. and lived in Haltom City, Texas.

 

Hubert Grammar Goines gave a warranty deed to some lots in Ft. Worth March 8, 1968 to his daughters, Lois Wilhemina Goine Sharpe, a widow, and Betty Lou Goines Storm, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 4532, pages 441‑443.

Later he was married, wife's name Estelle H.  In November 14, 1941 Carl Elbert Goines and Estelle H. Goines received a release from Olga M. Wiley in a lot in Indian Lakes Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 1473, page 87.  On January 6, 1947 they received a release from Olga M. Riley to a lot in the Dulaney Survey, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 1865, page 132.

 

In 1947 he was operating Twenty‑Eighth Street Welding Shop and lived at 5721 Highland, Haltom City, Texas, an address they maintained through 1973, according to the Ft. Worth city directory. In 1957 he changed the name of his business to Goines Welding Service and Goines Service Station. In 1960 they opened Goines Drive‑Inn at the same address.  In 1970 the drive‑inn was known as Chuck Wagon Pit Barbecue which they continued to operated through 1973.

 

Carl Elbert Goines and Estelle H. Goines received a warranty deed from his parents March 11, 1950 to a lot, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 2172, page 24.  On April 23, 1952 Carl Elbert Goines and Estelle H. Goines received a warranty deed from Richard Dick Gibson to Lot 6, Block 3B, Diamond Hill Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 2424, page 324.

 

On March 20, 1956 they received a warranty deed from Sam Lemaire for Lots 2 & 3, Block 58, Ellis Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 2971, page 169.  In 1957, 1958 and 1959 Estelle H. Goines was an inspector for The Mathes Company. In 1960 she was an assembler for Superior Standards, according to the city directory.

 

On January 7, 1958 Carl Elbert Goines and Estelle H. Goines gave a  Golden Gardens warranty deed to Nellie Ruth Angell to Lot 7, Block 9, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 3172, page 397. They confirmed the transaction April 30, 1964, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 3926, page 165.

 

He received a warranty deed from Addie S. McDowell March 31, 1959 to Lot 2, Block 58, Ellis Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 3308, page 537. On the same date they gave to Addie S. McDowell a warranty deed to Lot 6, Block 38, Diamond Hill Addition, according to the same reference.

Carl Elbert Goines, Jr. assumed to be the second child of Carl Elbert Goines and Estelle H. Goines, was born September 1, 1941, according to BVS File 92598.  He was married to Brenda Athalene Barrington May 8, 1961, according to Tarrant County Marriage Book 127, page 198.  On April 11, 1966 Carl Elbert Goines, Jr. and Brenda Athalene Barrington Goines had a transaction with Educators' Industries, Inc. concerning Lot 22, Block 5, Richland Hills West Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 4200, page 431.

 

Brenda Athalene Barrington Goines was listed as a beauty operator for Beau Monde Beauty Salon, living at 737 Schilder, according to the 1973 city directory of Ft. Worth.

 

Lois Wilhelmina Goines, assumed to be the second child of Hubert Grammar Goines and Nora Ethel Pickett Goines, was born July 31, 1918 in Tarrant County.

 

She a feme sole, received an interest in a lot from her parents March 11, 1950, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 2172, page 24.  In 1949 she was a clerk at Shaw Jewelry, living at 2705 Kinman, probably the address of her parents, according to the Ft. Worth city directory. She continued at that address through 1952. In 1950 and 1951 she continued to work for Shaw Jewelry. In 1952 she was a comptometer operator.  On January 20, 1956 she received a release from Tarrant County Savings & Loan Association to Lots 7, 8 and 9, Block 6, Golden Gardens Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 2951, page 35.

 

Later she was married, husband's name Sharpe.  On March 8, 1968 Lois Wilhelmina Goines Sharpe, a widow, received a warranty deed to some lots in Ft. Worth from her parents, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 4532, pages 441‑443.

 

Betty Lou Goines, assumed to be the third child of Hubert Grammar Goines and Nora Ethel Pickett Goines, was born December 14, 1922 in Tarrant County. She was married about 1943, husband's name Storm.  On March 11, 1950 Betty Lou Goines Storm, "a widow" received a warranty deed from her parents to a lot in Ft. Worth, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 2172, page 23.  She received another deed to some lots in Ft. Worth on March 8, 1968 from her father, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 4532, pages 441‑43.

 

Oliver Franklin "Ollie" Goines, second known child of William J. Goines and Louisa Ester Turpen Goines, was born in Tarrant County March 15, 1892.  He was married September 19, 1910 to Velma Ozment, according to Tarrant County Marriage Book 24, page 347. In 1911 Oliver Franklin "Ollie" Goines and Velma Ozment Goines lived at 1106 Benjamin, Ft. Worth, ac­cording to the city directory.  At that time he was a coach cleaner employed by Frisco Railroad. He had the same address and employment in the 1912‑13 city directory.

 

In 1914 he was shown as a car repairman for the Frisco, living at 1106 Franklin, the address of his mother.  In 1916 and 1918 he was shown as a car repairman for the Cotton Belt Railroad.

 

Velma Ozment Goines died January 7, 1917, according to Tarrant County death records.  Oliver Franklin "Ollie" Goines was married to Miss Eula Holtzclaw August 1, 1917, according to Tarrant County Marriage Book 35, page 441.  In 1920 he was shown as a laborer living at 909 Leahy Boulevard.  In 1923 he was shown at 1104 Benjamin, the residence of his mother.  In 1924 he was a mechanic at the same address.

 

On September 19, 1921 Louisa Ester Turpen Goines, Hubert Grammar Goines and L. H. Gray gave a warranty deed to Oliver Franklin "Ollie" Goines to Lot 39, Block 230, North Ft. Worth Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 692, page 112 and Deed Book 693, page 112.

 

In 1925 Oliver Franklin "Ollie" Goines and Eula Holtzclaw Goines lived at 1104 Benjamin with his mother.  He was again listed as a car repairman at that time.  In 1926 and 1927 Oliver Franklin "Ollie" Goines continued to live at his mother's address.  In 1926 Eula Holtzclaw Goines was rooming at 2259 Hurley Avenue, perhaps indicating a separation.

 

In 1927, 1928 and 1929 Oliver Franklin "Ollie" Goines was em­ployed by the Ft. Worth city street department, along with his brother, Hubert Grammar Goines.  In 1929 his address was listed as Route One, same as Hubert Grammar Goines.

Worth city directory.  In the 1947 city directory Oliver Franklin "Ollie" Goines and Blanche Price Goines were both employed by Ft. Worth Macaroni Company.  In 1950 he was an employee of city water works.

 

They gave a warranty deed to L. O. Newman April 24, 1948 to a lot in Englewood Heights, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 1995, page 79.  In 1951 he was a repairman in city public works. From 1952 through 1962 he was a foreman in public works.  On October 15, 1951 he gave a warranty deed to Mrs. G. E. Young, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 2362, page 42.

 

Blanche Price Goines died January 21, 1959 in Tarrant County, according to BVS File 3202.   Oliver Franklin "Ollie" Goines, the executor of her estate gave a warranty deed to Roy T. Bell to Lots 6&7, Block 8, Golden Gardens Addition February 4, 1959, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 3289, page 34.  From 1964 through 1970 Oliver "Ollie" Franklin Goines was a public school crossing guard, according to the city directory. Worth living at 324 West 10th Street.  Amanda "Mandy" Walton Goins, in a household of four, appeared in the 1901‑2‑3 editions of the directory.  Jack Goins died in May, 1909 without leaving a will.

 

Amanda Walton "Mandy" Goins, "a widow and others" gave a quit claim deed to L. C. Clayton and others to a part of the M. A. Jackson Survey September 12, 1914, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 480, page 417.

 

Amanda Walton "Mandy" Goins had received a quit claim deed from Thomas L. Stallcup to one acre of land August 14, 1909. The deed was later lost and on January 27, 1920 Thomas L. Stallcup gave her a replacement deed, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 502, page 554.  Amanda "Mandy" Walton Goins was remarried to George Lovell in 1911, according to Tarrant County Marriage Book 26, page 348, but apparently the marriage did not last. Amanda "Mandy" Walton Goins appeared from 1931 to 1934 at 1613 Davis Avenue, Cowansville, according to the city directory.

Charlotte L. Goins was the operator of Goins Place and lived at 1615 Amanda from 1947 through 1961, according to the city directory of Ft. Worth. In 1949 she was listed as a soft drink salesman. In 1950 she operated Stop Six Package Store. In 1952 she was listed as a clerk at Burke's.  In 1953‑54 she operated Poinciana Cafe. From 1957 through 1961 she operated Royal Poinciana Cafe.

 

Charlotte L. Goins received a warranty deed from Joseph Goins, her brother, a single man, on November 16, 1948 to his interest in 33 acres in the Dulaney addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 2045, page 217. They had previously received the property from Thomas L. Stallcup July 23, 1919, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 502, page 554.

 

Charlotte L. Goins was married to Lee W. Jones, negro, February 14, 1955, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 114, page 579. Apparently Charlotte L. Goins did not remain married long because on March 4, 1960 Charlotte L. Goins, "femme sole" gave an affidavit to the public in which she stated that she "was married to Willie Lee Jones," according to Tarrant County Deed Book 3420, page 396. The affidavit related to the north half of Block C, Charlotte Goins Sub‑Division of Dulaney Survey.

 

Charlotte L. Goins gave a warranty deed to A. Barnes March 24, 1965, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 4085, page 369.  In 1969 Charlotte L. Goins, retired, "widow of Lee" continued to live at the rear of 1617 Amanda, according to the Ft. Worth city directory.

 

Joseph Goins, son of Jack Goins and Amanda "Mandy" Walton Goins, was born about 1893.  Joseph Goins, negro laborer for Ft. Worth Power & Light Company, lived at 1616 Chambers Avenue in 1923. In 1924 he and his wife, Rosie Lee Goins who worked for a restaurant, lived on Main Street, Cowansville. In 1925 he was a laborer for Youngblood Plumbing living at Cowansville. In 1926, 1927 and 1929 he was again a laborer for Ft. Worth Power & Light living on Route 4, Box 60. In 1932 he was shown to be living at 1613 Davis Avenue, Cowansville, the address given by his mother.

 

Apparently Joseph Goins and Rosie Lee Goins were divorced about 1946. Rosie Lee Goins, negro widow, received a warranty deed from Thomas L. Stallcup to a lot in Stallcup Addition, Ft. Worth December 12, 1946, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 1862, page 83. On the same day she gave a warranty deed to James C. Killingsworth and Margaret Goins Killingsworth to a lot in Stallcup Second Addition, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 1862, page 84. Later she received a warranty deed from James C. Killingsworth, according to Tarrant County Deed Book 1867, page 380.

 

In 1947 and 1948 Joseph Goins lived with his sister at 1615 Amanda, according to Ft. Worth city directory. In 1949 he was listed as a laborer for Boswell & Boone Plumbing.   In 1950 Rosie Lee Goins lived at 4709 Katy, according to the Ft. Worth city directory. In 1951 and 1952 she lived at 5217 Ramey Avenue.

William Joseph McGowan, Sr, 83, an attorney of Brownfield, Texas died Sunday, July 6, 2003 in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.  Memorial services were held a the First Methodist Church in Brownfield.  Anthony-Bethany Funeral Home of Roswell, New Mexico was in charge of the funeral service.
