Archer County, Texas, USA

Richard Lewis and Viola Mae (Kirby) Taylor
My Paternal Grandfather was Richard Lewis TAYLOR, b. Jun 23, 1898 in Archer Co., TX.  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWI.  He owned a number of small cafes during his life in numerous areas of TX.  He died in Ft. Worth, TX in May 1977.  His parents were Richard TAYLOR, b. in TN. in 1847, & Marta Amanda CHADWICK BRUMFIELD TAYLOR, b. in Jun 1858 in Boone Co., MO.  My Great Grandfather, Richard was the first City Marshall of Archer Co., TX.  He served in the Confederate Army as a young boy.  Marta Amanda was said to be Cherokee Indian, & many of her family members ended up around Clay & Wise Counties, TX.

My Paternal Grandmother was Viola Mae KIRBY, b. May 1, 1897 in Dallas, TX.  Not much is known about her background, as she refused to talk about it.  I just recently found on her Social Security application that her parents names were John KIRBY & Alice CRENSHAW .  My Grandmother would only say that she had been raised in an orphanage in LA.  From my uncle's birth certificate I found that in 1917 she was married to a man from Ruston, LA, named, Ray Clarence LACK.  About him she would only say that he had gone to WWI & never came back.  Around 1920 she married my Grandfather, Richard Lewis TAYLOR.  She lived the remainder of her life in Archer City, TX.
