Genetic Distance Chart One of the biggest challenges for most of us is trying to figure out what it means when we read that we have an "x" percent chance of a common ancestor within "x" generations. The first report we receive has to do with the results of the first 12 markers. We get excited, open the link, and discover there are hundreds of candidates with whom we may be connected and nearly all of them are people of another surname. All of a sudden, we deflate and wonder if we had done the right thing by purchasing a DNA kit. The truth is that the 12-marker kit is only a start. To really see any definitive results, we must purchase the 25-marker test (or upgrade to the 13-25 marker kit.)
