a.The earliest building forms I have found at the archives do not have any official form number printed on the sheet as later forms have. The first image below is an example of this form.

b. Q.M.C. Form No. 173A - Revised Nov. 30, 1921 (Authorized Nov. 15, 1913). The form number are printed on these forms.

c. Q. M. C. Form No. 117 (Old No. 173 A) - Revised Aug. 21 1924. The form number are printed on these forms.

d. Q. M. C. Form No. 117 (Old No. 173 A) - Revised June 28, 1939. The form number are printed on these forms.

Note: Original building forms consist of a front and back. Sometimes there are only copies of the original forms and usually the back page is missing.

BARRACKS ON THE HILL PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY PRE-1940

BARRACK NO 75 ON THE HILL PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY PRE-1940

Note: The below description also applies to barracks No. 77, No. 79, and No. 81. The configuration of the interior is usually unique to each barrack. Some had mess halls others not. The basements were remodeled and used over the years for additional space. Showers, wash areas and toilets were also added here.

Capacity: Capacity: varied over the years from 50 to 76 men.
Building numbers used: Building No. 75 on c1941 map, No. 453 on c2012 map.

Cost: 6,000

Construction:
Q.M.G.O. Plan No. unknown.
Building dimensions: main building: 32ft. 6-inches x 146 ft. 6 inches.
Walls: wood frame.
Foundation: wood.
Roof: shingles.
Floors: wood.
Heated: original by stoves.
Lighted: Electricity.
Water and sewer: yes

Original building sheet for Barrack No. 75, date March 1, 1905. One of four barracks on the hill. Used by the first enlisted men stationed at the Presidio of Monterey and then used by 11th Cavalry Headquarters Troops, Machine Gun Troops and Service Troops when they were first stationed here and in the 1920's, 1930's, and 1940's. I have not been able to answer the question if the 76th had any of their Headquarters Troops located up on the hill. In an interview with 11th Cavalry Trooper Joe Santone he mentioned his brother was also stationed at the Presidio of Monterey at the same time and was barracked on the hill. I believe Joe said his rank was a buck sergeant and could have been in one of the NCO quarters in this area. I have not been able to back it up yet but I believe the 76th's Headquarters office and units were located in the Soldier Field barrack area on the lower north side. Further research will give up their location.
