a.The earliest building forms I have found at the archives do not have any official form number printed on the sheet as later forms have. The first image below is an example of this form.

b. Q.M.C. Form No. 173A - Revised Nov. 30, 1921 (Authorized Nov. 15, 1913). The form number are printed on these forms.

c. Q. M. C. Form No. 117 (Old No. 173 A) - Revised Aug. 21 1924. The form number are printed on these forms.

d. Q. M. C. Form No. 117 (Old No. 173 A) - Revised June 28, 1939. The form number are printed on these forms.

Note: Original building forms consist of a front and back. Sometimes there are only copies of the original forms and usually the back page is missing.

Note: The 1941 POM archive map shows lower cavalry stables are numbered:

No. 166-167 - Includes two blocks of stables (Troop A or B).

No. 168 - Blacksmith shop for Troop A and B.

No. 169 - Stable detachment building for Troops A, B, E, and F. This building today is where the Boy Scout Troop is located.

No. 170-171 - Includes two blocks of stables (Troop E and F).

No. 172 - Blacksmith shop for Troop E and F

Note: It appears that the stable building numbers may have been in the 200s pre-1941 before they were in the 160s and 170s as in the 1941 POM Archive map. Looking at various building sheets and maps from the POM archives also list the stables using numbers in the 90's. It is a little confusing but all these building number changes identify the Lower Presidio cavalry stables.

STITCHING IMAGES FOR STABLES NO. 91 (171) AND NO. 92 (170)

Guidon on stables read Troop E (left) and Troop F on the right. The center stable was shared by both troops. Stitching the images of building sheets that are labeled building No. 92 and building No. 91 I believe you get a view facing east of Troop E and F's stable. These stables are also numbered 171 and 170 on the 1941 map. They also may have had a building number in the 200's at one time. Yes, it is very confusing about the building re-numbering at the Presidio over the years. I have not found proper documentation at this time, but I believe the Presidio buildings may have had been re-numbered at least twice and maybe some buildings three times.

11TH CAVALRY STABLE DETACHMENT BUILDING NO. 169

Stable detachment building no. 169 for 11th Cavalry, Troops A, B, E, and F. This building today is the Boy Scout Troop building 2014. What I find interesting about this image is the 4 doors building configuration. It is possible they were for the each troop. The building addition behind this building was not original and added later according to the 1936 aerial POM Archive image. Source: G. Krenzelok Collection.

11TH CAVALRY STABLE NO. 166 (257)

Q.M.C. Form No. 117 for stable No. 166 (257). Stables Nos. 166 and 167 were the stables closest to the waterfront and Lighthouse Avenue. The building numbers come from two 1941 period layout maps of the Presidio of Monterey. The stables nos. 170 and 171 are located east. The building sheets for 166 and 167 also list the buildings as no. 256 and 257. The archive records for stables no. 170 and 171 show no listing that these buildings never had building numbers in the 200's, making it very hard to understand the history of the re-numbering of the Presidio's lower stables buildings. Updated version: Q.M.C. Form No. 117 for stable No. 166 (257). This is an updated building sheet for the stable probably updated sometime in the 1940's when all the lower stables were turned over to the quartermaster to be used as warehouses. The horses were gone by this time. This building sheet in interesting because it list the building numbers at 257 crossed off and 166 written in, continuing the stable numbering mystery.
