This page was created as a means to help my family as well as other genealogists who are doing research on ancestors with roots on the islands of Grenada, Carriacou, Antigua and St. Vincent, which were all part of the British West Indies until the 1900s.
In Grenada I am conducting research on the family of William Edward Yeamans Horsford, Esq who died in St. Andrew's in 1801. He is a descendant of Isaac Horsford of Antigua, who was a Member of Assembly in 1710.
Also in Grenada I am looking for the descendants of Thomas Thorne who married Rebeca Horsford in 1857. One of their children, Horace Thorne settled in Carriacou where he married Lily Sylvester, the daughter of Philip Joseph Sylvester, and Agnes Caroline Shade. P.J. Sylvester was the Town Warden of Hillsborough, Carriacou in the late 1800s early 1900s. Philip Joseph Sylveste's father was Sylvester Joseph, his mother was Lilly Scott and his sister was Lily Jane Sylvester who was the wife of Francis M. Jones. Lilly Scott's parents were William and Jane Scott and her siblings were James and Donald Scott. Donald Scott willed his estate to his niece Sophia Alexis, her parents were Sophia Frances Sylvester and Marcus Alexis.
Also in Grenada looking for information on Joseph Thorn and his slave Mary Madlaine and her mulatto son George. I believe Mary Madlaine became Mary Madlaine Thorn and George, George Emry Thorn. Joesph Thorn died about 1808/1809 and was originally from St. Osyth in Essex. He has two brothers John Thorn who lived in Colchester, Essex England and William Thorn who lived in Bradfield, Essex England. Interestingly in 1832 Madelaine Thorn shows up in the Grenada slave registry purchasing a slave from George Thorn and she lives in St. Andrew's where all the Thorne family has lived for over two hundred years.
Also of interest in Carriacou are the allied families of Scott, Duncan, Mill, Proudfoot, Warwick and McIntosh.
The other families that I am conducting research on in Grenada is from the Parish of St. John's in and around the town of Gouyave are:
The parent's of Gregory Shariff DaBreo, were Anthony and Julia DaBreo/DaBrio from Madeira possibly via St. Vincent and his siblings were Anthony, David, Louis, Leonard and Louisa.
Anthony Pereira, from Madeira who died in Grenada.
Manuel Ferrara/Fereira, from Madeira who died in Grenada.
Leip DeFreitas Gomes aka Phillipe Gumbs, from Madeira sister Arabella. His wife was Mary Pereira the daughter of Julian Pereira who was a native of Madeira who died in Grenada.
Antonio Pereira deSilva, from Madeira who died in Grenada.
I am looking for information on Peter Scott born in Grenada in the late 1800s as well as his sister Georgianna Scott who might be related to the McPhail family.
Also in Grenada Charles Duncan and Philip Duncan.
I am looking for Jack Julius who was born in Germany or Holland the son of Philip Thorne who was a medical student in both Germany and Holland in the 1950s. Universitat/University of Leiden and University/Universitat Johannes Gutenberg-Mainz
