Molley Samples was born May 2nd, 1852 on a farm about ten miles
southeast of Nashville, TN. She lived there with her Brother Aleck
and her widowed mother. In 1863 the Civil War broke out and they
moved north to get out of the battel fields. They settled in
Litchfield, KY. There she met William Barrentine, an intarant timber
cutter who drifted into town with his brother Joe. They were from the
South, but no one knows what town. He was young and gay and handsome
and soon won the heart of young Molley. They were married in Grayson
County in 1871. When tember became scarce around Litchfield, they
moved on to where there was more timber. They next settled in
Centrail City, KY. A new railroad was being built and several coal
mines were being developed whch made the timber business very
profitable.
Molley was a licensed midwife in Muhlenburg Co, KY and delivered more
that 1000 babies in 25 years.
