Lessie Oneita Grimes

Posted by paulheather07 on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 23:23:00

I am looking for information on my great-grandmother's family. Her name was Lessie Oneita Grimes (B.13 Jul 1911, D. 4 Aug 1987) She married Charles Herbert Kinnett. I have found her on the 1920 US Census with parents listed as Joseph G Grimes (b. 1880) and Ruby Unknown (b.1903). She has siblings listed as Irene, Mary Lu and Joe F Grimes on the Census. She was located in Jacksonville, Telfair County, GA at the time of the Census.

I was able to locate Joseph G Grimes on the 1880 Census with parents listed as Alexander Grimes (b. 1842) and Lacey Unknown (b.1851) living in Wyches, Elbert county, GA. Joseph's Siblings are listed as Fannie, Amos, Mary, Jennie and Nora. Joseph is listed as Joseph H on this census instead of Joseph G. Possible it's not the same person, but not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! You can contact me at [email protected].

JOSHUA GRIMES & LUCY ANNE ORRICK, m 1832

Posted by Donna Hubner on Wednesday, February 08, 2006 at 22:05:27

Hi, I'm looking for information on Joshua Grimes, who died in St. Charles, MO, in 1845, and his wife Lucy Anne Orrick Grimes (1809-1849) who was born in Berkeley County, WV, and died in St. Charles, MO. Joshua and Lucy Anne had five children, their being my 2nd great-grandma. I will paste the information that I know below. If any of it seems like a match, PLEASE email Donna at:[email protected]
THANKS!!!

SUMMER 2004, Donna found papers in the St. Charles Historical Society which addressed Joshua's death in 1845:

Received of Dennis McDonald Thirty six dollars and thirty cents on account of Final settlement of the Estate of Johua Grimes Deceased March thirty first 1845-- Lucy Ann Grimes

Signed by John Orrick: Received of Dennis McDonald, Admin, of the estate of Joshua Grimes, the sum of ninety one dollars and fifty eight cents for a note due said estate, March 7th, 1849. $91.58/100

Joshua and Lucy Ann Grimes were married on December 1, 1832, in Washington County, Maryland.
By the 1850 Missouri census, their five children were all living with Lucy Ann's brothers and sisters. The Orrick family record states that Lucy Ann Orrick Grimes died in 1849 (no cause given). What happened to Joshua? At this point, that is an unknown. The following Missouri census data shows the whereabouts of Joshua and Lucy Ann Grimes' children in 1850:

Michael Grimes and Catherine Kavanagh/Cavanagh of Tipperary Ireland

Posted by Pam Forrest on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at 22:58:56

I am searching for Michael Grimes and Catherine Kavanagh/Cavanagh of Tipperary Ireland. They had at least two sons named Edward born 1832 and William born 1834.

Edward emigrated to PA in about 1850. He worked in PA, and Broome county NY, before going to CA and Idaho to the goldrush. He returned to NY by way of the "Horn" and met Mary Jane Reynolds, who he married in 1869 in MN. He went to MN to join his brother William, and obtain land. William emigrated around the same time as Edward but went to MN directly. They farmed together in MN for a while. Edward and Mary Jane had 7 children: William, Edward,John Joseph, Rose, Katherine, Ellen, and Jane. I am searching for information on this family. I would like to find William and his family. They may have left MN at some point. Catherine Grimes remarried at some point to a man named Delehunty, and had other children. I have found a grave for her in Valparaiso Indiana dated 1877. I am not sure if this is her grave. Michael Grimes either died when Edward was 4 years old, or left. Apparently two of Catherines boys named Delehunty went to Australia. Any information about this line! would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Pam Forrest

Bernard Grimes/Fell

Posted by Machele on Monday, December 06, 2004 at 03:35:36

My father's father was Bernard Grimes (born Fell), reportedly a B&O railroad engineer in the Baltimore area, probably around the 1940s. He married Elva Samont and they had my father Bernard George Grimes in 1939 and maybe a daughter. I believe their marriage ended in divorce and Elva and the daughter reportedly moved from Baltimore to Philadelphia. My father was left with his maternal grandmother in 1945. Bernard Grimes falls off the radar screen at this point.

My grandfather was adopted by his Grimes parents. His birth surname was Fell. My father's entire side of the family is deceased so any help in filling in the blanks is appreciated even though I realize I am not really a direct Grimes descendant. I am particularly looking for his adoptive parents to see if there might be any leads to the birth parents

Grimes family of Allegany County and Livingston County, New York.

Posted by Helen on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 12:55:08

I am researching the Grimes family of Allegany County and Livingston County, New York. Richard Grimes married Lidia Bevins 15 Jul 1771 in Hartford County, Connecticut. Thier older children were probably born in Connecticut. By 1790 Richard is in Catskill,Albany County, New York. This family is in Greene County by 1810. A daughter Hepsebeth married James Brewer about 1805 in Greene County. They later end up in Allegany County in the Nunda area. Also in that area is George Bush with his wife Eunice Grimes. And Richard Bush Jr. with his wife Anna Philips. I believe that Richard and Eunice are also children of Richard Grimes and Lidia Bevins, but need additional proof. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

1820 WILLIAMSON CO. TN GRIMES

Posted by Lee Bacon on April 15, 2004 at 16:10:55:

Can anyone help me identify the two Grimes listed in the above census, James and John. I'd like to know when they were born and who, when, and where they married. If you know their parents, that would just be great.

Re: 1820 WILLIAMSON CO. TN GRIMES
Posted by Brad Wiliams on April 16, 2004 at 12:32:50:

Hi Lee,

I'm researching the same two. I believe they are brothers but cannot prove it. (See Latest Findings here).

John was born about 1774-1775 in South Carolina and died in Wayne Co. Tn. June 14, 1844 and is buried on the Haggard Farm just off US 64 west of Waynesboro.

John married Penelope "Penny" Blackshear in (we believe) Williamson Co. at an as of yet unknown date.

James married Elizabeth Little on April 16, 1816 in Williamson Co.
Right now little is know about James and his family, other than he had a son he named James who married a McCrory.
I received the following in an E-mail from T. Vance Little:
There is a very large church planned for the corner of Granny White Pike and Old Hickory Boulevard in Brentwood. There is a cemetery on the site, which is known as the McCrory-Grimes cemetery. It's a long story, but to make it short, there is buried there a J. L. Grimes, born June 7, 1810, died Nov. 17, 1871, and J. Andrew Grimes born Dec. 12, 1866, died March 31, 1881.

As you know James Grimes married Elizabeth Little in 1816. They had a son named James who married a McCrory, according to Allen Little's notes. I feel sure that the J. L. Grimes buried there is the James Grimes who married Elizabeth McCrory in 1864 and that he was the son of James Grimes and Elizabeth Little. The dates don't exactly fit, but there could be an error in transcription.

Best Wishes
Bradley

Wanye County Tennessee

Posted by WILLIAM ELIJAH AND MARY MINERVA HOWELL GRIMES on November 18, 19103 at 14:28:07:

I posted earlier about William G. and Charity Grimes but have found out that they may not be the parents of Willian Elijah Grimes 1864-1937, my great grandpa. I was told there was a grandmother named Charity and the father's name was also William presummed it was them. I need a link to my greatgrandparents. I am having trouble because the Wayne County Tennesse records were destoyed by fire. The info I have for sure is that William Elijah married Mary Minerva Howell in Aug. 1890.It was his second marriage. I don't know the first wife. William died in 1937 and is buried in Zion Cemetery in Wayne County. I have found William and Mary in the 1900 and 1910 censuses. The censuses indicate William was born in TN.
Another cousin's information said that William's father is also William Elijah 1813-1867 and his wife was Eliza Adeline 1822-1867.That would have made William JR. an orphan at age 3. William Sr.'s mother is supposed to be Charity DIckerson 1780-1813. If anyone can please help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

SEARCHING FOR FAMILY!!!

Posted by linda grimes on October 07, 19103 at 20:18:51:

Hi, my birth name was Linda Grimes. Born 03-03-1963 at Alta Bates Regional Community Hospital on Webster and Reagent in Berkeley, CA. My mother's name was Phyllis Grimes and I want to find ANY relatives or anyone who knew even remotely. I think I had an older half brother and younger half sister at the time we were taken away and adopted out. I believe she was perhaps homeless at that time around 1965. I desperately need to find family members!

William and Charity GRIMES of Wayne County

Posted by Judy on October 04, 19103 at 17:28:16:

I am looking for information on William G. and Charity Ann Grimes of Wayne County Tennessee. They are listed on the 1870 and 1880 census but I can not find any record of them before that. William is supposed to have been born in Tennessee. It states that William's father was born in N.C. Charity is from S.C. Her maiden name is either Dickerson or Dickenson. They are next to John C. Grimes in the one census. Anyone have more info?
